So this is my first post on the community board, so I wasn't sure which one to upload this to.

But recently, I got a new job working in a field I wanted to before I went to college and why I went to college.

Ive been working in a job for the past 3 years that has made me so miserable. It was a toxic environment. From gaslighting, unprofessional, unethical, misguided, no boundaries. It really hurt my health physically and mentally. Almost like I feel like I'm scarred from my experiences there. It also isolates you because you spend so much time there, never really going anywhere and you don't get to live life all that much. No one seems to like me much. Like i would be expected to do 200% while another coworker would do 50% and its like they thought "well at least they did something." Also noticed they give recognition for those who sacrifice their life to be there long hours even if they don't much work.

Pretty much it was an easy decision to leave. I'm actually worried my negativity from my last job is going to follow me. I want to be around ppl again.

I don't have much of a support system because i work so much. I'm worried I won't be liked at my next job even if I try to be friendly.

@penguinchemist24

Hello there!

First of all I hope you understand that we at the 7 cups community are here for you. we care about you and you have our support. I am sorry that you had to go through such negative experiences at your previous workplace. The number of issues you have mentioned here alone are enough for me to imagine how much effort you put into dealing with workplace situations. It indeed is unprofessional of them to mistreat you this way. In the light of what we know, I truly appreciate that you took a stand and left your work. Your health comes first of course and I believe you made a very important decision.

I really hope you take the time out to heal yourself and give yourself the love you so deserve. Do not worry about being around people because when you find a new job and when you return to working with a confident spirit, you'll make friends again, this time you can discern which ones you can trust and which ones you need to be cautious with. Life is a not a smooth road I can tell. Reach out to us whenever you need. We're here for you! *hugs* \(^u^)/

@penguinchemist24 , Looks like Your previous workplace has taken a toll on you, physically, mentally and emotionaly. You endured it but also decided to walk away. That takes courage. Trust yourself and explore as you go on. Life is constantly moving and changing . Take one day at a time and see how it goes.

This is good feedback. Having been subjected to a toxic workplace like you describe, I remember how it felt and I sympathize. While the recovery was long, it did leave me with one skill I didn't have before: now I recognize the signs early on and can take steps to protect myself by getting help/support from other people if possible, and/or go elsewhere before the situation worsens.

I think you made a wise decision to leave. I worked in a job where they were changing the rules and criteria that you had to meet to keep your job and things were always up in the air. I was constantly afraid of getting fired even though I was doing well. I ended up having to use the EAP program to speak to a counselor about my stress and I found a different job and quit a couple of months later. It's a decision I'm really glad I made! You can heal. I think it's easier to do that once you're in a healthier work environment. You sound like a hard worker and a thoughtful person. The right kind of people will like you for you. If you find yourself struggling and you need additional support, you may be able to use the current job's EAP program to speak to a counselor for free.
