@shellofashell Oops, hit the enter key too fast the first time there ^^ 😆
Same! You bring up really good points. I may need to do some digging, researching, and reading on tips or ideas for how to break the two apart or how to figure out which ones still serve us? When I get interested in a topic I dive deep! I might be going down a rabbit hole on this topic soon. If I find any good tips I will share them here. If you know of any, feel free to post them as well!

@shellofashell
I have decided to lock in a goal to enter a tip each day this week as brainstorming through some ideas of how a person would get out of survival mode. yes

How to go from surviving to thriving heart
Day 1/Brainstorming session 1 :
  • Evaluate current state Take some time and evaluate where you currently are. Then ask yourself, are you happy with your life at the moment? If the answer is no, what areas would you change?

@FlourishingDimensions I love it! You are awesome. I think when we're asking ourselves those questions, it's so important to do it without judging ourselves. I know sometimes I get caught up on shaming myself for not already having changed those things. I think we just need to look at it like you said, ok this is where I am, period. Where do I want to go from here.

Maybe I jumped too far ahead and this would actually be a separate step.

I have some more to add to the brainstorming sess:

In addition to
- Evaluate current state
and
- Remember to be kind to ourselves, and not judge or shame

Connect with ourselves by asking “What do we need?”
In the past, our needs or emotions might have been overlooked as to just “get by." So now we need to really take a pause and listen to,
What is you body telling you?
What are your emotions telling you?
Are you scared, angry, or sad?
Taking a moment to really connect with yourself and listen so that you can respond the way that you WANT to, versus the way that you might have felt you HAD to before.

Thursday's brainstorming ideas:

Pay attention to the things that you automatically write off. Are there things that you might be avoiding because it initially seems, scary or not worth it? A goal might be to try and get into a different habit here of trying to recognize this as we do it. This could be a good way to help figure out those areas where we might be slipping into survival mode. Maybe an idea could be capturing them in a journal?

Friday's brainstorming ideas for getting out of survival mode...

Making sure to take time for self-care. Consider this your reminder if you are seeing this :) Maybe consider reminding yourself or giving yourself permission for a break. Whether 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or more.

Why is self-care important? As the saying goes, you can't pour from an empty cup. It's sort of like a recharge. A moment to ... b r e a t h e ... and that just feels... good :)

Some ideas...
- Meditation
- Relaxing Music
- Warm Bubble Bath

- Warm Shower
- Stroll
- A Massage
- Journal
- Jog
- Yoga

Hi @FlourishingDimensions (: This just made me think about how important self care is for long term trauma like you mentioned a couple posts above. Calming the nervous system during those automatic reactions that we may have gotten so used to and might not be aware that we're doing. I think I need to be practicing it constantly and not just when I'm aware of a panic attack or something like I usually do. I need to make it part of my everyday routine to combat that anxiety that's always there in the background.

I hope you're having a nice week!

@shellofashell Hi there! I am having a nice week. Thank you :) How is your week going?
You really do draw to a good point that constantly remembering to practice self-care can be a huge piece of that healing process. I must admit, talking this through with you as like a type of brainstorming has been a bit of a growth opportunity for me as well. There can be a lot of things a person knows they should do. Or they can offer up as good suggestions to consider on a path of healing. But how many times does a person forget to actually take in, process, and fully do what they are suggesting or know they should do? I know I am guilty of it at times. For example, "Ya, xxxx would be a good thing to do". Then the xxxx goes out my brain and I go on with my day. Really taking pause and thinking and then doing the thing, the xxxx is a different story. I don't know if that makes sense? :) But this is been a pretty cool, light bulb moment if you will?

@FlourishingDimensions Hey! I'm doing well thankyou. Yeah that definitely makes sense! I do the same thing. I can think of what I need to do, but making it a habit becomes more difficult. I I tend to spend my time doing things that pop up or appeal to me emotionally. I'm glad this brainstorming is helpful to you too! It definitely has had me thinking.

Brainstorming Saturday... (ways to pop out of survival mode if you feel stuck in it)

Are you living and enjoying your life now?

How can we start?
Perhaps if we focus on the things we are in control of in life,
- Our Attitude
- Our Effort

Food for thought, today might be a good day, (or someday soon) to start on the new hobby we have been thinking about. Or perhaps finding a new hobby to try out? Or would you like to help out and volunteer your time?

Why?
Hobbies can help you relax when life gets too overwhelming. They can help you refocus. They can give you a sense of mastery. They can make you happy and feel enjoyment. They can help ignite your passion and who knows, maybe it will help get to know yourself again!

Ideas:
Volunteer at an animal shelter, for example, walk and play with the dogs.
Been wanting to try out an oil painting? Watercolor maybe?
What about some gardening? Have you been wanting to plant some veggies?
Has it been a while since you've knitted? Or is this something you have been wanting to learn? Maybe the time is now?
Has that acoustic guitar been staring at you for months now? Maybe today is the day you give it some attention?
