Seeking advice.

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on how to start journaling? I know it’s great for mental health, and I’ve been feeling a bit on edge lately, so I think tracking my moods could really help. The problem is, I struggle to find the motivation or remember to keep up with it (honestly, I’d rather read a book than write one!). Does anyone have any tips or tricks that have worked for them? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi :)

I also have a habit of journaling, so I think I also have some tips I can share that hopefully you can find useful. One thing I can say, though, is that it's really a great pathway for expressing your emotions and helping you be more aware of them.

Personally, I don't push myself to do it daily, because I think it's something I only need to do when I feel like it. To me, it's supposed to be a really free thing that I can personalize. When I feel anxious or sad and feel the need to write it down, I'll just do it. And on other days when I feel like nothing's really going on, I'll just not do it. Some people prefer to do it daily and others (like me) just do it when they feel the need to. It's just a personal style thing, so just do what works best for you.

And another thing would be to not think of it as full-on writing a book. What you write down doesn't always have to make a whole lot of sense, because the main idea of journaling is to give you a pathway to express your emotions without judgement. You don't really need to put a lot of thought into what you choose to write down. Just write down anything that comes to mind! This might be hard to do because sometimes you might feel like the stuff you're writing down is weird and cringe, but try to minimize judgement and urges to be perfectionistic as much as possible. Like I said before, I think it should be an experience that's really free and that you can customize however you like.

And if you want to stay motivated, you can try decorating your journal. If you're working with a journal that you love working with, your motivation to come back to it every day might increase. Make it your own! Customize it so that you will like it, but try not to worry about getting it perfect to the point where it stresses you out. I never decorated my journal because I like to go for simplicity, but it has a cover with cartoons that I really like and that's why I bought it.

Hope this helps <3
