You can say that one reason I'd obsess or be thrilled to draw portraits of kids show hosts from my past is b/c of how it gives 'two pronged validity' to my experiences. (i) Validation for those years, during those years of unwittingly autism and living through that and my gratitude towards those cherished 'unwitting babysitters and (ii) the validation towards expending my current efforts to persons I could have picked to practise art on during those precious years when a commitment to a practice could have become and remained fruitful

About drawing. If I had found out how the Macbook HDMI adapter was here all along, I might’ve reached a different stage by now. This fellow’s photo was a reference [link] and after ‘surely less than 3 hrs but more or at least 40’ untimed minutes w/so much tedium/lapses of activity in between. This was the outcome [link]. As with the drawing course late year/decade, I used the site ‘ribbet’ and adjusted the reference photo w/the ‘pencil’, ‘adjustable threshold’, ‘extra black & white’, ‘neon--inverse’ filters b/c of my lack of confidence with merely looking at the photo for a long period of time, give or take a black and white or sepia filter and working from that.

After which I was kind of drained—not b/c of the activity level put into it so much as (if ‘the spoon theory’ of mental health is to be evoked) b/c of the strain of the effort it took ‘to carry me’ and my lack of confidence in what I was doing/ motivation across ‘the task’*.

While I have an ample arsenal of art supplies w/me, I barely used any . What I noticed (as in that attachment) that there comes a point when even if enjoy ‘taking my time’ the end result is a simple, ‘realistic’ in terms of linework and facial curvature drawing but goodness knows how it’s far from detailed. The amount I would need to do for lighting, shading *and* say ultrarealistic skin texture is beyond me b/c I haven’t really attained the experience/skill from the interminable drudgeries of exercises focusing only on that.

*the logistics – having enough space, space for myself, for my resources, not being too far from a nicely sized screen, the time and space/lack of distractions or commitments to anything else is still better found while at my aunt’s than at home.

When you can't use reference photos enhance what line work or pigments are already present

Take photos of all the portraits you've done so far before possibly proceeding to do the 'trois crayons' on them etc
