my journal: various subjects, opinionating, CW at times

The title explains itself.

If you're interested in the ramblings of a middle-aged man with chronic conditions who, at times, sees things a little too clearly for his own good, then read on.

Sometimes I get political, but it won't be all the time.

I don't mind comments in general but if you're going to differ with what I write, that's fine--as long as you can explain your position clearly & reasonably. Rants, shouting & general incoherence will be ignored or flagged, depending on the situation. Try to remember that not everyone else in this world holds your beliefs.

Every so often I may post art or snapshots of projects I'm working on.

If you're still interested after reading all the above, great. (I do wonder at how much time you have on your hands, though)

I t is very cold. I agree. Power companies can't keep up and we may lose electricity and heat tomorrow morning for 5 hours. Brrr.@slowdecline48

@bestVase7265 Jesus on toast, that's not good! Are you & yours okay now?

We are. The power thing ended up being only a threat. Took a later shower because I didn't want to use electricity for the hot water heater but otherwise we were good. It is starting to warm up just a little now. We aren't nearly as bad as elsewhere. @slowdecline48

Also, apparently the current job market in the US is apocalyptic... Never thought I'd say this, but I'm sort of glad I'm getting old with chronic issues. If I were younger, poorer & without any health conditions I'd be trying not to panic right now.

Had some strange dreams...woke up with the ringing in my ears rather insistent today, & a little bit of "corpse face". Welcome to the chronic life.

Maybe I should get a room for a couple nights?...the weather app notified me of a "freeze watch" a few minutes ago...

@slowdecline48 Might be a good idea to do that with the freeze warning. Might do you good to have a warm place to crash for a while

@unassumingEyes That's because you're small & thin, & don't eat enough to keep the internal fire stoked. We both know that.

It's funny, ain't it...how quickly certain women get upset when you don't give them cash upon hearing some sob story?... 😏

I'm willing to help almost anyone once. If you're a friend of mine then I will pull your a.ss out of the fire without hesitation...but I don't count many people as "friends". And I am not going to throw 💵 at you just because you're in a fix that you could've avoided if you had approached your situation with a little bit of forethought.

...so let her be upset. I don't give a wet fart in a windstorm about it.

@slowdecline48 what my dad does is offer 'em work. Clean this, fix that, run these few errands...the moneys yours. They always say no, its ridiculous. where'd all the desperation go? 🤷‍♀️

I think that deep down they are usually more upset with themselves but they lash out at you. But they do have to grow up and learn. @slowdecline48

@bestVase7265 Agreed...the thing is, some people never learn. I've seen it more than once.

A cup of coffee cannot replace sleep.

More than one cup, Italian espresso, doesn't matter...none of it will replace time in the sheets.

I don't work nights but sleep has become increasingly elusive. Depression and anxiety manifest in not being able to sleep. @slowdecline48

I don't work nights either...haven't in many years. But I've been nocturnal all my life. Once you pass 35, it stops being fun.

Related to the above:

You know you're not a high-energy person when you drink a cup of coffee, then fall asleep in your vehicle shortly afterward.

Have you ever been sufficiently bored, apathetic, tired, or just lazy...to the point where you didn't even get dressed for the day?

User Profile: slowdecline48
slowdecline48 OP February 14th

No matter what kind of medicine(s) you're on when you lie down to sleep, even if it's something prescribed...if your dreams have enough action, you will wake up. They don't have to be nightmares or anything terrible...they just have to be sufficiently intense, & you will wake up.

Then you'll be wide awake in the small hours of the night...alone with your thoughts, plus whatever secrets you keep.

Does any of that sound familiar, gentle reader...
