Dating and Breakup with a narcissist
You came into my life promising so many enticing things. You told me that you loved me and wanted to spend a lifetime with me. Meanwhile you threw dirt my way, slowly and steady. So slow in fact that I couldn't tell that you were burying me alive.
Sometimes you would sit with me in the dirt and convince me that I wasn't alone. Telling me you had my back and that everything was ok so I didn't notice it accumulating around my body. Before I knew it I was covered and immobile. You told me you would find a way to save me, that you would come back and help.
Deeper still it got until eventually the weight beneath me collapsed and I was trapped in a hollowed out shell beneath the earth. It was dark, lonely and scary. For some time I stayed there trembling and unable to move. The only solice I had was your voice that would reach me from time to time in the darkness just when I thought I would go crazy. Soon that voice would come back less and less. It kept telling me to stay put and wait for his help. So I kept waiting...and waiting.
Eventually I found the inner strength to dig forward inch by inch. Some days I halted unable to see or feel a path. The dirt piled around me and it seemed impossible to move. As I continued the inches gave to feet and I could finally feel a subtle hint of air and light in the chasm. I could still hear your voice reach me from time to time with empty promises of help.
Everyday I pushed forward until one day the dirt gave way into a massive cave of darkness. There were days I was scared, I couldn't make out much in the darkness. But other time I could feel a draft beckoning me forward. With uneasy footing I continued. Until air and darkness finally turned into glimpses of light somewhere in the distance.
I began to see a path forward although not all that clear. So I continue little by little without you. Everyday gaining a little more strength and resolve. My path still unclear but steadier by the day.
