Happy birthday
Birthdays are an odd thing.
I'm 19 today.
People wanna celebrate, go out, have fun. I work, forget the fact that it's my birthday till someone mentions it.
Yet I remember how people don't text me to say happy birthday despite barely knowing it myself.
people wanna celebrate the fact that their getting older. I wanna mourn the day.
Idk. Maybe i'm just tired of gifts being shoved in my face, belated happy birthdays and the lack of joy i seem to find.

What would meaningful birthday rituals look like for you, as you've indicated that you're tired of the lacklustre greetings and general performativeness of the day? I came across the idea of birthdays as your own personal new year. Seeing as we're halfway through 2025, it would be a very opportune time to (re)consider goals, plans and timelines, to reflect on what's working and what isn't. My birthday is imminent and that's what I'll be doing.

You know I don't know the date I was born, I know the year but not the real month or day. I didn't actually realise birthday celebrations was a real thing. When I was 20 that's when I learnt about gift giving and the happy birthday song and ways which people celebrate. But you know what from that day on I promised that I would celebrate everything I possibly can😊💖 so maybe you just need to think of it in a new perspective. It's your day right? So you should be the one to decide how you want to celebrate, what perfect day would make you happy? And then do it 💖
