Healing from Abuse: A Journey of Self-Compassion

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share a bit of my journey in the hopes that someone else might find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.

For a long time, I found myself in an abusive relationship. I never thought I would be someone to go through that kind of experience, and it still feels surreal to reflect on. I took a lot of emotional abuse which turned physical and in the midst of it, I loved my ex deeply. I can’t help but feel mad at myself for allowing it to happen, but I also understand that he was struggling with his own pain and emotions.

It’s confusing to be angry at myself, to love someone who hurt me, and to still care for them even though I know I deserve better. I’ve been trying to process it all, but it feels like I’m stuck in between wanting to heal and still holding on to parts of the past. Sometimes, I feel like people around me pity my situation, but to me, it just feels like it happened and I need to move forward.

I know healing is not linear, and it takes time. That’s why I’m here, sharing this, because I’m on my journey, trying to rebuild and learn more about myself. I’m working on understanding my values, setting boundaries, and finding my own worth again. It’s not easy, but I’m trying to be kind to myself through it all.

If anyone has felt something similar, just know that it’s okay to feel mixed emotions. It’s okay to struggle, but it’s also okay to want to move forward and create a better life for yourself. Take things one step at a time and be gentle with yourself.

@Priscella Hi. how are ya?

This is such a powerful and honest reflection—thank you for sharing your journey. It takes immense strength to open up about experiences like this, and even more to work towards healing. You're absolutely right—healing isn’t linear, and it's okay to feel conflicting emotions. You’re allowed to still care, to feel anger, to grieve what was, and to want something better for yourself all at the same time.

The fact that you’re here, reflecting, and working on setting boundaries and finding your worth again shows just how strong and resilient you are. You are not to blame for what happened, and you deserve kindness—from yourself and from others. Keep taking it one step at a time, and know that you’re not alone in this. Sending you support and strength from 7cups. 💙
