Shadowhunters
Okay so Shadowhunters is a book series by cassandra clare
I haven't read the books, but I have watched the series and movie.
And what the actual ***??
Malec (ship name for Magnus and Alec) are the highlight of the show. They're the whole reason I continued to watch it.
The overall concept of the show is decent, yet I find that the execution was well, somewhat poor. Of course it has it moments but well, if it wasn't for Malec, it wouldn't be worth watching in my opinion.
I find that they both are fantastic representation for the queer community and they stray away from the normal queer couples you see on tv. Of course the stereotypical gay couple is seen less on tv nowadays as time goes on but this show was created in like 2014?2015?
Not only that, but they're so real. I mean duh they're *** fictional fantasy characters who don't exist but their issues are clearly projected and shown throughout the show.
Alec's struggle with his sexuality, struggle with his parents, his siblings, himself. Magnus' struggle with his past, his insecurities, loosing apart of himself. Their issues are often complicated and confusing and uniquely theirs and yet, I find myself relating to them.
They both are 100% morally grey characters too, which just adds to how interesting they are. Not only are they interesting characters but also an extremely interesting couple and ugh.
Is it unfair for me to want what they have??
Yes they struggled, they broke up a couple times for valid reasons though!! Magnus had to protect his people and he felt that Alec was holding him back from doing that as they're from different species. Then, later on, Alec broke up with Magnus because it was the only way to get Magnus his magic back.
Should they have had better communication, 100%! Should they have found other alternatives that didn't include breaking up as it hurt them both, yes.
However, it just projects this idea of them having insecurities and makes them all that more real.
Of course the other characters have merit, and their relationships too and yet, i find myself to constantly be captivated by these two in particular.
Not only that but their acting is amazing. Yes, they both have their scenes that are completely underwhelming. Such as the scene where Jace died and we see Alec's reaction. That could've been so much better!!! Such as the scene where Magnus breaks down on the balcony. That could've been so much better!!!
However, in the scenes where it's focused on them and their relationship, their acting is phenomenal. Like, I had to check multiple times that they both were straight. They just seem to have so much chemistry, something that is rare to see on screen. I mean sure, there are some fantastic actors but none have made me believe that two people were actually together.
I'm low-key kinda mad that they're not actually together!
Ahhh i want that.
