LGBTQ+ Community Check-In: Week of Sept 18 - 24
Guess what, it’s Biweek, otherwise known as Bisexual Awareness Week, an extension of Bisexuality Day which we will celebrate Sept 23! While bisexuality represents a significant portion of the LGBTQ+ community, it sometimes goes under acknowledged. Hopefully this week we can all take a moment to learn about bisexuality.

Checking in:
First of all, it is great that there is discussion around bisexuality. For a community that gets so much grief from outside, it is frustrating when your LGBTQ+ friends judge who you date just because it doesn't fit their labels or internal stereotypes. Personally, I tell people I'm human and I date humans, isn't that all it should be??
I had a big positive yesterday when I volunteered at a beach cleanup. When I arrived I was surprised to see a big table with Gay4Good on it. Apparently, there's a charity that brings LGBTQ+ people to local activities for other charities (Habitat, etc). What a great way to get involved in volunteering but also know you'll have allies around you. I met a really cool person and had some good conversation. I recommend checking them out.

It can certainly be difficult when there is so much misunderstanding between labels, hopefully we can find common ground as a community and respect the diversity that likes to hang out under this big "rainbow umbrella".
Beach clean up sounds like a great way to volunteer and and important task, even better that you were able to discover the charity that does so much good too! Lots of good work out there needing to be done.

It can be difficult when questioning to know what we are feeling or how to describe it, which is only compounded when others try to dismiss it as "just a phase."
Although it makes me think of what the definition of a phase is - a distinct period or stage in a series of events or a process of change or development. So in a way questioning can be a phase because it is a period where we develop an understanding of ourselves and what we want etc. But that doesn't mean it's temporary or not real by any means. So maybe it is a phase, but not "just a phase" in that this questioning is a stage in the journey to understanding yourself?
But how does one know they are bi? That can be a good question, personally I would ask do you feel attracted to people of two or more genders? Even if the attraction is not split evenly between them, or if you choose not to act on that attraction, I would say It's about the experience of attraction.
