13 year old trans boy - dysphoria help
I'm only 13, so there isn't a lot I can do for my dysphoria on my own. My mom won't let me get a binder because she's worried that it'll hurt me, and she also won't let me cut my hair. I can barely even look at myself in the mirror these days. My chest is super prominent - like, a C cup or something - and I just can't even at this point. Help?
@MyloPerHours
hey, I know it really sucks right now and I’m really sorry. I’m in a similar situation to u (also 13 year old trans boy I did get to cut my hair, but that’s it, my parents hardly even care that I’m trans and don’t do anything about it). If you ever want someone to talk to let me know.
@Confusedpotato1
thanks. quick question: since i can't get a binder, do you have any recommendations on a compressing sports bra?
@MyloPerHours
I actually have heard that kt tape pro works ok if u play sports and can tell ur mom it’s for a sport or something, although it isn’t perfect and it doesn’t work for me because of my skin. If u do that just look up a video for instructions first. I have not found a sports bra that works well, but also I have not looked super hard and usually I just wear a big hoodie. Sorry about that. If u do find something that works, let me know :)
Hey dude! I’m an 18 year old trans man and I was in the same situation when I was 13.
it gets easier! here’s some tips that helped me a lot!
- experiment with makeup! Learn how to contour to make your face more masculine, it does wonders. Make your eyebrows thicker!
- try binding with sports bras. Wear one and then put another one on backwards. Make sure they’re the correct size/even a size larger so they don’t constrict your breathing. This looks almost as good as a binder imo
- hats and beanies are good! You can hide your hair in them when you’re out of the house.
- Something that helped me with dysphoria around hair (but might not work for you and that’s okay!) is to find pictures of cis men with long hair that I think look cool. It made me feel a lot more like a guy because some guys have long hair and that’s okay!
I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I hope your situation improves. Feel free to message me if you need help with anything!
Hey sorry you're going through this. Theres been some great suggestions already but I'll add to them. If you're able to maybe you could show your mom some educational videos about binders to show that they're safe if you get the right size and follow safety guidance. As for your hair, if you're allowed to you could try a modern mullet/shag cut so its shorter in the front. This may make it easier to tuck the back into a hat. I recently heard that target(I think) have a new selection of compression vests that work similarly to a binder. It may be a collaboration with tomboyx. Also the Girlfriend Collection do some tanks that have compression, ive seen a lot of great reviews on tiktok.
Hope this helps
