I think but I’m not sure

For some time I’ve been thinking that I am a boy. I’m not sure. My mom says that if I am trans I would have known since I was a kid. I’m 15, turning 16 soon. I think she might be right but I’ve heard other people stories, some not transitioning til they left high school. I started feeling this way when I was at my lowest do I can’t help but feel it’s all in my head. Not sure what to do.

I can't comment from experience but this is a big decision. How do you really feel? Could you test the waters?

like the other commenter said it is definitely a big decision and not something to take lightly. it's worth thinking about that you only started feeling this way at your lowest (you might be thinking that being trans would give you a community of people and friends that you relate to), and that you feel it's in your head. it would be a good idea to ask yourself some questions, like:

-what makes me think i'm a boy?

-do i want to be male forever? do i see myself in the future as a man?

-do i feel comfortable in my body? is it because of the gendered parts, or more because of other things (weight, appearance...)? what specifically makes you uncomfortable about it, if so?

-have i been comfortable being a girl in the past?

-when did i first consider that i might be trans? do i know anyone who is trans?

-do i like more masculine or feminine clothes or hobbies or things? (not related to your gender! just something to ask yourself)

-if i lived on a desert island on my own, what gender would i be?

and more. also consider waiting it out before making any decisions. i hope that was helpful (:

hi

firstly i should say your mom is absolutely wrong. i know so many trans people and this narrative is just not true for most of us. that's what parents say.

secondly, you don't have to be sure. please, think about what i'm saying. so much time is wasted wondering and doubting. just live your life. go out dressed like a guy for an afternoon. see if you like it. don't make a big deal out of it. deciding you're a guy doesn't automatically mean you should do stuff and transition and whatnot. no. just live your life. try out names. try different looks. just like any other 16 year old, explore!

i've been out nearly 10 years and i always think about how doubtful i was and how much time i wasted just sitting and thinking when i could be living and exploring!

Last year I knew someone at my school and we were friends at the time but not anymore, for unrelated reasons. They'd come out as trans to the friend group at the time and possibly others, cut their hair short, and went by a new name. After a while they grew their hair out again and changed their name back. I don't know if they were pressured to go back or realized they weren't trans, but If it's safe, the I would reccomend maybe trying it, temporary things like clothes or stuff first of course then if you're sure, tweak things until you feel good about it. Sitting around not being sure can do some nasty things to a person, so be careful please.
