How to find a name
Hello I'm trans and I'm searching for a new name since 2 years.I'm EXTREMELY struggling with that. I'm right now just a person without a name because I don't want to keep my birth name but also can't find a new one.I've scrolled through sooo many name list :(
I'm also overthinking every name because I'm scared that people will laugh at me because the new name could sound weird or something. And i prefer a name which starts with the same letter as my birthname otherwise I feel to much detached.
I don't know what to do anymore :'(
Hello, I understand the struggle with choosing a name, i am sorry.
But rest assured no common name sounds weird at all, and if you choose an uncommon name it would only be unique and that's good too.
It's good to surround yourself with people who are accepting or tolerant , if someone judges you negatively they are not a good company and it's never due to having a name, it's on them anyway. you deserve a good name that you like personally , it will be commonly used for you and should be pleasant to you but do not despair, people will eventually associate the name with you not the reverse so it would be: you being yourself , your presence and personality which would define what that name means to others or reminds other of. (That's why anyone can also 'make a name for themselves' -metaphorically- by doing their best to be be good, people who are good enough to be around will accept you.
Your anxiety could be related to many things including past experience or simply feeling anxious that people are not accepting, but i fully accept you and i wish the best company for you, you can also expirement with names online
Remember that: only people who are tolerant are worth being with, intolerant people are not.
You are valued ,valid and loved
Besides 2 years was long enough to say you have anxiety or fears related to this subject, it's good to reach for help if the anxiety hinders making the decision and they would make a real analysis and help you , i suggest to seek support from licensed professionals if the anxiety persists, it does not have to be general, it could be about one topic and still be affecting you.
I am also here for you in this thread, sending you best wishes

hii! Finding a name can be hard. A lot of people might judge you. Its also ok to change your name throughout your life, who you are right now doesn't define you forever. We are all here for you for this long journey. i chose my middle name, Avy, as my preferred name, I'm gender fluid, and I wanted a more masculine name then my birth name.
If you wish, you can reply with some ideas or vibes you are going for and I can send some suggestions.
There is no pressure love, it will come when it comes ❤️❤️
best regards, bunny ❤️

@communicativeApple9560 Choosing your name can be intimidating! I remember I took a long time before coming up with 'Charlie', and people tease me for it sometimes since it's "stereotypical" for a trans man. But that's okay, it's normal to do a bit of teasing about any name, chosen or otherwise. At the end of the day, you're naming yourself, not defining yourself. You did the hard part already, and that's something to be proud of.
You don't need to pick a name that perfectly encapsulates who you are at this moment, because you'll have this name for a long time. When I chose my name, I was 15, and I named myself after the kind of man I wanted to grow into; you can think about yourself now, and the future self you've not met yet. It's been 9 years since then, and I found that the important thing wasn't the name itself, but whether or not I felt I could grow into it. We all grow into our names, after all.
My advice is to try a bunch of names, and see which one you'd like to grow into. I thought about characters from books and people from my family that I admire, but some people name themselves after plants, TV shows, or they just like the name. Just like how people pick names for children when they're born. Babies aren't born seeming like Dereks or Lisas or Maxes, it's something they grow into. You can grow into your name, too! It's okay to experiment, and I wish you good luck <3
@communicativeApple9560 Here's a suggestion, take your middle name and change it to agree with the opposite gender. That way it is still part of you and you can relate to it.
