Should i be in this relationship? (Long text)
Hello, first forum post here, sorry if its a bit wordy im quite nervous.
So im a guy in a relationship with their best friend, she recently came out as trans, we r both in our 20s and from different countries and we've been friends for nearly a decade but we just started e-dating at the start of the year.
The problem arises in the fact that i might be aroace, this is not new, in fact she's the one that brought it up in conversations we've had given how im pretty unreactive to anything remotely sexual or romantic, she asked me out twice previously and rejected her both times wich she didnt seem to mind, this third time i accepted because in new year i promised myself to try new stuff, i thought maybe the fact ive never been the love was because ive never tried a relationship, plus i wanted to make her happy since she is my best friend.
She was ecstatic, the happiest ive ever seen her and that's fine to me because i like talking to her, it was nice at first but then ive noticed issues began to pop, at least from my pov, she falls head over heels for me daily, calls me pet names like "hun" "babe" "my light" among many others, teases me a bit, talks on how she wants bridal carry me (she's a tad taller than me), sends me kisses, says she likes my dull/dry wit jokes, loves hearing my voice in voice chats despite being dry and monotone among lotsa other things. Me? The most i can muster is sending her a hug.
Ive talked to her about this, that i dont feel as strongly as she does and cant send her kisses because it doesnt feel genuine from my part since kisses seem to be something a more developed couple would do, cannot bring myself to do anything she does because it would feel forced from my part, and she knows! And she tells me she doesnt mind and that im perfect how i am and proceeds to pamper again, wich i dont mind, but i can only follow with a stonefaced expression, i feel very inadequate to be her partner, it feels thats its not on her favor.
This feeling cemented itself strongly today wich is why i am here, i recently finished a personal project and reached a milestone with it that i couldnt previously do, i was really happy and wanted to show it, my family didnt care much for it, i was really bummed, then i decided to show it to my group of friends wich includes her, i had a strong response after having heartfelt conversations with two friends and her, what screwed me over was the genuine feeling of friendship i had with both those firends i talked and her telling me i was a genuinely good friend.
Then she typed something, "it looks great man", i felt genuine joy reading that, "man", not "babe" nor "hun" nor "luv", she said it like she would when we were just friends, now i feel bad, because i get the feeling im better off just being a friend than a boyfriend, im nervous and anxious and with a headache.
I dont want to make her sad, but my feelings for her as a friend are stronger than anything romantic, sorry for the long amount of text, but its been eating away at me all day.
What should i do?
@Somehowhere Hello, that sounds like a difficult situation to be in. I think that the best thing you can do is communicate to her in a nice way how you're feeling. Because you've done nothing wrong, you're not a bad person and you don't have to feel like that! But if you want to take a break and figure out yourself you can do. And you can explain to her how much you love her as a friend. You don't have to take that advice, maybe talk to some other people as well... I wish you luck though!
