Showing Pride (Day 26 of Living Beyond a Label!)
When it comes to showing pride there are many things you can do, and it’s not all wearing rainbows, although that can be one way.
So as mentioned one easy way to show pride is in what you wear. If you are going to a Pride celebration it’s also definitely okay to go a bit over the top in your colourful attire. But there is no need to go out and buy something pride themed if you want to show your pride this way. You can go through your wardrobe and find something in every colour of the rainbow, or maybe even wear the colours of one of the other identity flags that you identify with. If bright clothing is not your thing, you can also find a lot of rainbow or other flag themed accessories from pins, bags and water bottles to umbrellas and more.
Speaking of going to a Pride celebration, these celebrations and events can be another great opportunity to show your pride, many are also free. A quick internet search may help you discover any Pride events happening near you, and remember they don’t just happen during Pride month, so hopefully you can find something fun that suits you.
Another amazing way to show your pride is by creating arts and crafts! When you think about it the Pride flag itself started out as art. So you could tie dye some clothes in Pride colours, make your own beaded jewelry, paint a poster or sign to carry to Pride events, and so much more. Art is a great form of expression and a wonderful way to show your pride. (If you do create some art this month please share it here!)
Even taking time to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community, its history and growing in your understanding and awareness can be a way to show pride, as well as demonstrating a commitment to making things better for all LGBTQ+ people. Taking time to talk with friends and spread that knowledge is an amazing gift to everyone.
Showing pride can also be as simple as supporting LGBTQ+ organizations by volunteering, getting involved or making donations.
However you choose to show your pride, it’s entirely up to you!
