WANTING TO COME OUT!!! (Advice needed 😊)
I’m looking for advice/perspectives from other trans people because I feel like I’ve reached a point where I’m not really sure what the next step should be.
I’ve been exploring my gender privately for quite a while, including feminine expression and having private spaces/rituals where I can just be myself. Earlier, my dysphoria/euphoria tended to have obvious triggers certain clothes, seeing girls, makeup, jewelry, imagining specific situations, etc. But lately something has changed. The feelings themselves aren’t necessarily extreme all the time, but my awareness of my gender has become a pretty constant background feeling. It’s on my mind basically 24/7 now, even when nothing specific triggered it. Sometimes there are stronger spikes, but the bigger change is that it feels much less compartmentalized than before.
I’m still functioning normally I can study, and do most other things etc. although I’ve noticed it may be affecting my emotional regulation a little. I don’t want to wait until it starts seriously interfering with my life before doing something about it.
I increasingly feel that I don’t want to spend the next few years living entirely in my current gender role. If there were no consequences, I’d move toward living more openly as a girl without hesitation. I’m also increasingly aware that I want other people to perceive me that way, not just have private feminine experiences.
The complicated part is that I love my family and friends deeply, and I genuinely don’t know how they would react and ABSOLUTELY don't wanna lose anyone. So I’m considering coming out, potentially quite soon, but I’m scared of what could happen afterward.
For people who have been through something similar: what would you do next if you were in my position? Would you come out now, gradually come out to people, wait and prepare more, or take another step first? And how did you decide when you were actually ready to come out?
@BlushNebula Honestly, I don't think you need to keep waiting for your feelings to become more convincing. From what you're describing, it sounds like you've already done the exploration part for quite a while. The fact that it's becoming a baseline feeling rather than something that only appears when you see a dress or a girl is something I'd take seriously.
Then I'd spend a little time figuring out the actual consequences of coming out to family, rather than imagining either the perfect acceptance or the absolute disaster. Who would support you? Who might need time? What happens if someone reacts badly? What would you need afterward?
Most importantly, don't confuse fear of losing people with uncertainty about your gender. Sometimes the thing we're scared of losing is exactly what makes taking the next step so difficult. I'd ask myself: ‘If I knew the people I loved would stay, would I still want this?’ If the answer keeps being yes, I'd start building toward that life rather than endlessly testing myself.
@shiningSmiles3207 hope this helps 😊
