Is it ok to call myself gay?

Hi I am a girl who likes girls. I identify as a lesbian. But sometimes when I’m talking I say “I’m gay”. As a woman, is it ok to say that? Or is gay only used for men?

I've never seen a problem with a girl saying that she is gay. I lot of girls use this term. It can be use for girls and boys.

I say it all the time. In fact, when I came out to my mom I told her I was gay and not a lesbian
