I’ve been dating the love of my life for about a year and a half. We’ve had ups and downs but at the end of the day she’s the woman I’d want to spend the rest of my life with. She’s my soulmate, and I love her deeply. The biggest difference/issue between us is that she isn’t out of the closet. She’s 31 years old and feels as if she would disappoint her parents by coming out to them. They are religious and traditional but also very amazing and loving people. Her parents love her very much and while I and others think they would accept her for who she is, she’s terrified of coming out. She’s always said she wants the same future I do, marriage, kids, being out, etc. It’s been difficult for me at times because I’ve felt hidden and like I’m not a big part of her life. She’s not out with any family, at work, or with friends. The only reason a few of her friends know is because one is a mutual friend and the other is gay herself and figured it out. My girlfriend isn’t even comfortable walking down a public street hand in hand for longer than 30 seconds. While I know this woman loves me very much because she’s shown it in many different ways, I yearn to be held, kissed, etc, regardless who’s around. All I want to do is tell her parents how much I love their daughter and want to spend the rest of my life loving her. She’s made little steps and some progress, but nothing huge and hasn’t come out. In the beginning of our relationship she would get mad when I’d post pictures of us on social media, which I understood, but it hurt because when you know someone, you want to shout it from the rooftops you know? I just don’t know whether or not she’ll ever get there. She wants to, but she says she just feels stuck and can’t do it. I understand her fears and concerns and have tried to be patient and loving but it gets real tough sometimes, especially in this day and age where I see so many happy couples around me and on social media, as much as I try not to compare, I do. We’ve broken up before over this but I always come back. I don’t know if I should let go, or wait for a moment that may never arrive.

Thank you for sharing. I wouldn’t want to let go either but Im sure the pain of not being able to be closer to the one you love is so hard. My heart goes out to you and I hoe that things get better
