accepting myself
hello everyone, i’m new here so i hope im posting this in the right place. i recently came out as a lesbian and i don’t have any friends who are in the lgbt community to talk to. i went to a wedding this weekend and it broke my heart for a second watching the couple. im so happy for them but im realizing i will never get to experience that. only some in my family are accepting and i know most of my family wouldn’t come to my wedding. i just want to put it out there to see if anyone else could relate as im working through all of this. thanks for reading!
Hi peacefulPerspective! My name is Kayla and I am a queer woman, I can empathize with where you are coming from, bringing a woman home to my family is really uncomfortable because while people claim to be accepting, their actions speak louder than their words. My mom has made a big deal about weddings and not coming and it breaks my heart. It can make getting into relationships scary because "what if I fall in love with them", I've accepted that if I was to get married, some people will not come, and maybe that's okay because if they really were my family they would support me. I try to see it as those who mind dont matter, and those who matter dont mind. I'm always available if you would be interested in chatting about things, otherwise I wish you the best and safety in your future endeavors
