Daily Mindfulness Check-in 1st July 2020

Hi Mindfulness Community,
I hope you are all well! Today I wanted to do a check-in on increasing patience. We are all going through a difficult time where we might find our patience levels are decreasing. That is normal under the circumstances we are facing. Please share a time where you've found it difficult to be patient but managed to overcome this and what worked for you. Even if you're still trying to overcome impatience, that is okay! We all are trying to overcome it :)
Finding Patience Within You
One of the worst things about being impatient is how reactive we become. Checking messages and emails and knowing ourselves in the process. Not looking after ourselves whilst we do this.
Have a little compassion for yourself. At the root of patience is frustration, and at the root of frustration is a range of emotions, like fear, anxiety, lack of control, and self-consciousness.
Its enough to be upset at a certain situation, perhaps its the pandemic and all of the restrictions placed upon us but try not to extend this to you.The situation is not you.
Acceptance over Resistance
Have you ever noticed that when you meet an unplanned inconvenience or challenge with resistance, you are really thrown off - and your mood can turn sour and heavy? Everything becomes about overcoming and removing the challenge when you resist it.
On the other hand, when you meet an unplanned inconvenience or challenge with calmness, your mood remains steady and patient. This is the power in responding than reacting to unwelcome circumstances.
How do you control this when youre at risk for getting impatient? Reduce resisting experiences that come your way, where you are unable to affect change. Practicing acceptance does not necessarily mean you like, want, support, or endorse everything you cross paths with. Rather, it means youre choosing to allow it to be there without resistance, when you cant change it anyway.
In this way, practicing patience is to practice making your default reaction to accept what is with openness, rather than resist it. This does not mean you have to welcome the situation with open arms and enthusiasm – it just means that you avoid resisting it and let it happen within a neutral attitude. It then becomes like a large wave approaching you, you fear it and resist it approaching but it washes over you and you can breathe again.
The Silver Lining
What does it teach you in this moment? What are the lessons and what can you learn from being in this situation? What does this moment give you that you might not have had before?

Patience instead of resisting is my middle name!!! How I need to change to this method of coping!!! Work constantly brings me new and unexpected challenges every day and I can get so frustrated. I will try accepting these challenges and just go with the flow. Maybe I will have peace of mind at the end of the day and sleep better. I leave work frustrated a and then not wanting to go in the next morning. I really want to make my work more enjoyable and less of a chore so thank you for this!!! I will let you know how it goes!
@LisaDeRegtMBPsS Im not gonna lie- tonight I have no patience for reading this or anything-my feet are hurting lol. But I do know this is a key for being productive and acheive in mindfulness. I will take a better look at it in the morning

Your post was extremely helpful to me today!! Thank you for that. While at work today my employer was pretty busy and kept piling more and more things on me to do. I didn't even take a lunch break. Finally about 10 minutes before I was set to leave he dumped 100 more things on me and asked if I could work late as he was leaving earllier than usual. I was ready to snap and make a really sarcastic remark. Then I thought of this post where you talked of patience. I was reminded of your words of something to the effect of acceptance and stop resisting. And I thought of kindness as well because my employer is always kind to me. It is just lately that he has been piling the work on me. So I took a deep breath and told my employer no problem while I was cringing on the inside. My employer was extremely grateful when I said no problem and he let me know how much he appreciated me staying late as his wife has just been diagnosed with cancer and they had a telephone conference with her doctor, I have never felt so humbled in my entire life. I am so glad your words came back to me at the right time. I plan to keep practicing patience and hopefully I can make a positive difference in other's lives and not just my own .
