Rejection And Mindfulnesssurprise

Image result for rejection

Live your life for you not for anyone else. Dont let the fear of being judged, rejected or disliked stop you from being yourself. ~Sonya Parker

"What did I do wrong?" or "Why don't they want to talk to me no more?" or "I'm just not worth it to anyone" I bet hearing these words make you feel you not someone good enough-right? As unpleasant as "rejection" is IT'S PART OF LIFE, and even me and mine is not exception. As time went by and I had kids and allowed myself to engage in the worls, I invited rejection into my life. A crush I had only wanted to be friends. Something I ran for in school I wasn't elected. I didn't get that promotion. Wow rejection friggin hurts!!!

Here are some ways we can be MINDFUL of rejection:

1. Build Mindfulness- Mindfulness meditation is a practice used to help control anxiety, self-awareness. The act of mindful meditation is a simple one requiring you to simply sit, disconnect yourself from whats happening, and take in the world around you. It helps to not only center you but also builds empathy for others which is key in both understanding rejection and also guiding you when its necessary for you to reject others.

2. Build Grit- Another form of mindfulness is building mental power through grit. the mentally strong work on seven points: 1. They acknowledge their discomfort 2. They give themselves a reality check 3. They celebrate their courage 4. They refuse to allow failure to define them 5. They practice self-compassion 6. They learn from rejection 7. They move forward with confidence

3.See Social Media for What It Is- Social media is the fuel for which our society burns for energy. What was once a fun distraction has become a staple in almost everyones lives. From Facebook to Pinterest and Twitter and half a dozen others, social media keeps us connected. The other side of that same coin is social media use can lead to depression, anxiety, and reduced self-esteem. This comes from everyone sharing only the best of their lives, using social media as a way of showing off to garner validation and approval from peers. What this does is only show the bright side of their lives; and when the bright side is all we see and we compare our lives to others, were comparing the good and bad of our lives with only the good of others. This creates a skewed perception and we become over-analytical of our own lives, feeling that were failing somehow because why arent I as happy as them?

4. Be Mindful in Our Romantic Interactions- One of the areas in which we deal with rejection both being rejected and rejecting others is in dating. Being mindful without judgement can be difficult for anyone, but by keeping in mind not only what we want but to appreciate what we have, it makes interacting with those were with easier and more meaningful.

Discussion:

1. What does rejection look like to you? How do you feel?

2. Now that you shared on how this feels, how do you think mindfulness skills can help refocus you and give you some grounding?

3. Can you share on some skills that help you desculate the negative feelings/thoughts when you are dealing with rejection?

I try to reframe rejection by deciding that it was something (the universe, luck, etc.) telling me it wasn't the right fit and/or it's them and not me, etc. And sometimes this really has come to fruition: I was once heart-broken after getting several rejections for a program to teach English abroad. Afterwards I applied to one or two more but it was hard not to be upset after numerous rejections and the time, money, effort, etc. spent in these interviews.

Not long after that I decided not to bother anymore and try to move forward in doing something else. A few months or so after that one of the companies I had applied to hit financial trouble and that led to several of the teachers being let go. This meant there was a flood of them in the market. After reading about all of that I decided that it was the universe tellng me that it wasn't meant to be, and this is why. Of course, I could have been perfectly safe, secure in a job with another rival company but there was no way to know and it underlined some of the uncertainty with these things.

Sometimes it's not always this "neat" in the sense that I actually got some sort of closure on this particular situation but I think of this sometimes when I get rejected for something.

@ReadBooksDrinkTea

HI Read thanks for stopping by todaysmileyI do like your attitude on handling rejection and telling yourself positive things. I do hear you on trying really hard on something you are passionate about, only to get rejected over and over. aahhh so this long passion of yours back fired and you could of been very dissapointed, had security, good to some how let things go and wait and see where you go from there. Sometimes it;s hard tho.... I like that you got some closure in this. Being mindful of rejection on any level is tough. But in this case you found a way to move on, saw what would of happened and had gotten closer.

I am glad you shared this with usheart

They way I feel about rejection is: "What did I do wrong?" and "Why don't they want to talk to me?" and "I'm just not worth it to anyone" and "Maybe I am not wanted" and "No body cares".

I do find it so odd that there are so many politics, challenges, etc in life and not sure how to handle them anymore. Feel like I have enough of them in my normal life that I can't handle and can't figure out why in the world are the listeners, the leaders for the forums and those paid by 7cups treating me and others the same way. And yes, I am a listener here on 7cups also. I feel like maybe I should just get rid of my account lately since folks don't care like they used to on this app. I have been seeing it more and more that folks are feeling this way and the communication on this app is getting worse and worse. Yes, there are a few good listeners on here but they are far and between to the norm.

@Havingfuninthesnow

HI Snow good to see you in this discussionsmileyaawww those kinds of thoughts just eat away in us so so fast dear. As I said up there rejection hurts and makes us wonder like "why" or other things. I do know 7cups has it's ups and downs. Like seasons that forever are changing-and we have no control. But, learning mindfulness teaches us to be in all those seasons and changes. Just like here. We really can't do much on how things run or are....but we can have power over our actions and behaviors. Do we rebel? Do we join in? Do we take a self care so we can adjust our own thoughts and visions of why we are a listener in the first place?

Honest I do understand you. Thing is we have choice on what our part is in it. We can choose to ignore or run away or even being the change.........

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple! heart How are you doing today? I hope you had a wonderful weekend! laugh

1. What does rejection look like to you? How do you feel?
To me, rejection looks like unacceptance. I usually feel quite hurt and confused by it, but I try to work past it and remember that the acceptance that matters most is acceptance of myself.

2. Now that you shared on how this feels, how do you think mindfulness skills can help refocus you and give you some grounding?
I think mindfulness skills help me refocus and give me some grounding in order to reframe my thoughts and view regarding rejection.

3. Can you share on some skills that help you desculate the negative feelings/thoughts when you are dealing with rejection?
I desculate negative feelings and thoughts when I am dealing with rejection by practicing mindfulness activities, such as Hand on my Heart and rubbing my tummy while repeating postive reaffirmations, as it brings me back to a clearer and more positive state of mind. smiley

Sometimes tejection can be the most overwhelming feeling ever I used to get intimidated others rejection but as time went by I learn to pound it in my mind oh well their lost not mines and learn that I dont need people like that in my life... sometimes we all just got to learn how to frame ourselfs from other people and their negative situation and move on life is beautiful even when we are hurting

Radical Acceptance, a form of Mindfulness:

Allowing whatever happens to be OK. that doesn't mean you can't do anything to make it better, but do it Mindfully, knowing that all events are transient, and all effects can be altered. if the going gets HARD, lean into it. it builds charactor and mental muscles~!

Moon hi good to see yousmileyoh wow so yes on that radical acceptance stuff. It really does sound weird but in a way we have to just accept things and learn to live. It is hard at times-but not impossible. Thank you for these wise wordsheart
