How do you combat emotional eating? I learned in theory that by being aware and mindfulness exercise can help. But how can you put it into practice?

Hey @baiqian

Benge eating is never a good idea especially under emotional persuasion that’s telling you I am sad and I just need to intake sugar. Logically speaking your mind makes sense that eating a lot or eating something with extremely high calorie is going to increase your glucose level and dopamine makes you happier. But every time before I commit myself to emotional eating I just tell myself that’s gonna make me feel a lot worse afterward. When your body starts relying on emotional eating that’s pretty much when you’re can I keep hitting rock-bottom. I guess one way that you can put it in practice is to start examining the food before eating them. You know how in the whole time when you eat cereals you would read the cereal box, same thing here you just read the ingredients level and calorie level before you eat something and plant it as a trigger in your hand so even when you’re extremely emotional you still remember to check what exactly are you in taking. And another good idea is to completely get the idea of evolution eating out of your head to replace eating with other activities to cope with your feelings. Examples could be whenever you’re feeling down you listen to songs, read books, or exercise a little. So I guess the key point is really up to self control no matter what you do. It is up to you and you alone to know how to deal with your own emotions healthily and that method usually comes from practice and exploring. Don’t stress too much if you can combat emotional eating right away you can just start small like how you do with everything else.
