Project Achieve Your Goals

Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!
Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.
Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:
Members:
Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.
Examples:
I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week
I want to go to the gym 1 time per week
Take 3 growth path steps every day
Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.
Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.
Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.
Step 5: Post your progress each week >>in this thread<< and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.
Listeners:
Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support*, reply to their forum post and let them know!
* Please make sure you can support the member based on age group, ie. Adults with Adults, Teens with Teens. Only Adult-Teen Listeners can chat with both *
Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.
Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!
Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! >>In this thread<<, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!
I would like to rediscover how to make sure all of my needs are being met without feeling guilty for not
One of my biggest goals is too lose weight, become more active, have some enthusiasm for something. I have lost 13 kilos so far
This is sort of an odd and specific goal. Its not quite a phobia and not quite an anxiety. Some sort of neurosis.. who knows?
Ive become so accustomed to staying in my house that I rarely go outdoors now. I am looking for an encouraging accountable partner and would prefer someone who has beaten reclusiveness or is familiar with this problem. I am not agoraphobic. If anything I guess its more like extreme social anxiety for its not places but people (and myself) that I am hesitant to know.
I will set specific weekly goals such as: go outside for at least ten minutes 3x a week, etc. I just need someone who understands. Thank you.
@themainjane
Hi! This is something I have had lots of problems with too and I don't think what you said is odd. My reclusiveness/difficulty leaving the house was mostly anxiety about being around people and being seen and it was very difficult to deal with. And the longer you stay inside the more scary going outside gets. I'm not a listener so I don't think I can help with this project but I just wanted to let you know I get where you're coming from (to a degree anyway) and I wish you lots of luck because it can be very difficult to deal with
@themainjane I have been so used to isolating myself all day playing video games. I am trying to tackle the issue now, I think I have gotten a mild degree of social anxiety. No sweats or heart beating, just purely mental, because I really want to start getting a network and have friends, but every time I try to think about how in the world I am going to meet someone I can't see it for myself. Nothing seems interesting to me except the virtual world which is the internet, maybe I need to expose myself to being out there more, I know for a long time now I have thought it might help if I went and talked to strangers, but I really can't get myself to do it.
@Demigod852
I can understand how daunting a task it must be to just go out and meet strangers. Id think it doesnt necessarily have to be an activity that involves others if that seems overwhelming at first. For instance, Im planting a garden in the spring - just decided Im going to do it because it will get me outside. True, its a solitary activity in this case but it will help with acclimating me to leaving my house regularly (without as much of the social anxiety). Maybe you could cultivate a hobby you liked before or one you always wanted to try?
To address the gaming: You may be aware but I just wanted to add that their are forums on here that help with gaming compulsion. I play a design game and altho thats probably not quite the same I do understand and appreciate how addictive it can become. You are definitely not alone.
And finally, if you are looking for others to meet - are there any groups that meet nearby that focus on activity you might enjoy? Maybe it would take some of the pressure off if there were a collective focus.
I hope you find the courage to live outside the virtual world. I hope we both find our courage. Thank you for commenting and please keep me posted - maybe we can share in our triumphs and trials!
@themainjane
I understand very much. I've always been needed by someone or groups I was in. After I was paralyzed and told I would never walk again......well I am some with a walker less than 2 years later. I always had flower beds and vegetable gardens. It's still too cold to plant however, I'm outside decide what I'll get and where it'll go. I love photography also so, I'm going back inside and grab my camera (s) and go shoot some pictures.
My problem is having encouragement along the way and realize I am still needed...by me. It's so easy to go inside and put it off again for another day. I need help to push forward sometimes.
@themainjane
I really understand you!!!!
I'm the same way. You can do it!!! I'm here for you.
My main goal is to complete my apprenticeship and do well at it, and the first thing I need help with as part of that goal is getting myself into work everyday (difficult due to mental illness). If anyone is available to check in twice a week that would be great, but once is very helpful too. Thanks :)
@Corylus9216
Id love to be an accountability partner if you still need one :) Ive got a similar problem with going to school and my writing. Im fairly new to this app, do I check in on you on this thread?
@MarriedTree
Hi! I'd love an accountability partner! I think I'm supposed to message you if you're a listener and go from there. I'll do that in a bit if that's ok, just need to do some stuff first. Thanks :)
@MarriedTree
I've had a look and I don't think I can message you because you're not a listener. We can start a separate thread to talk to each other though. I think for this project it has to be a listener paired up with a member, but if you want we could still start a thread and update each other on how we're doing with our goals? It's fine if not! Just thought I'd suggest it because we have similar goals :)
@Corylus9216
Yeah that sounds good! If you know how to create a thread would you be okay with starting it? I kid you not when I say that I
@MarriedTree
Yeah I will do after work today! I'm still learning myself haha
My goal is to better today than I was yesterday.
My goal is to finish all of the math requirements for my Bachelor's of Computer Science, at my community college, and then to successfully transfer to a four year university, and to get accepted into their Computer Science program.
@passionateMango2156 I'd be happy to be an accountability listener for you if you'd like. I think you have set some wonderful goals for yourself, and I'd love to help you achieve them! =D
Thank you @Power2DoGood. I would appreciate the support. How does the accountability listener thing work, I've never spoken to the same listener more than once?
@passionateMango2156 So you can message me at any time by navigating to my profile and clicking the button to send me a message. After our first message, you can also navigate to your list of previous chats and send me a message at any time! I can also check in with you regularly if you would like. :)
