Advice on how to write a first time resume?

I'm 24 with no job or work experience and zero support system. Any advice or templates for writing a resume for someone with very little skills? I have no idea what I'm doing and it's overwhelming.

I'm looking into the musical field and hoping to apply for higher education in Musical Production soon If I can afford a payment plan. (first working toward driving lessons)

The goal is to become a live sound engineer.

I've been volenteering consistently for about 3-4 Years for a local radio station and event organising on the side but I have no high education, nor any degrees.

I've had a lot of on and off health issues and mental health issues that impacted my ability to work. But I need to move out of my toxic family and this is my best call to action. Thanks in advance.

All that volunteering will be awesome on a resume.

I'm sorry that you are struggling so much.

If you go into g.oogle and type in resume format , you'll find what you need.

I absolutely wish you the best 🥰

In general, it helps to look up resume templates used by other professionals in your specific field (in this case, Music Production) to see what skills people highlight/are in demand.

Nowadays many companies use ATS (applicant tracking system). This means often your resume may be rejected before a human being even sees it, just because you didn't use the right words.

When looking at a job you want, look out for any key skills in the description and use these in your resume to increase your likelihood of passing the ATS.

I will say nowadays, people are more likely to land jobs by networking and knowing people, so if you are able to connect with others in your field, this is a bonus.

Best of luck

I agree with everything from CharmingOrange! Just want to offer a bit of support too.

You have a goal. You have several Years volunteering in a related field (years look very good on resume👍). You have strength and resilience and a desire to grow despite toxic environments & inner struggle. You have discipline to prioritize your goals and are actively working toward them. On top of that you probably have talent and a good ear/instinct for acoustics and music.

Maybe not every one of these will come up in an interview or resume or cover letter, but trust me you're doing much better than most 20-somethings and appear as a very desirable employee or intern. You are doing great, trust in yourself & keep eyes on the horizon. ❤️🖤
