I'm new to 7 Cups, I'll apologise in an advance as I'd be surprised if this hasn't been asked before.

What does listening to music mean to you ?

What are your favourite genres, have they altered over time and do you still chase new music ?

My taste has evolved, dominant rhythm sections especially complex bass lines dominate my choice and at 58 years old I never tire of listening to new music, compiling playlists of new music keeps me sane during night shifts at work.

Hi @RunningMachine! Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do... as i have great difficulty enjoying anything else.Β

i usually listen to 90's alt and grunge rock but i also love 80's 90's and 00's pop and rock. i am also have enjoyed so much more like 60's and and 70's rock and pop also 90's country.

i have stopped looking for new music. I used to love finding new music... about 4 years ago i used to explore looking for music 4 about 10 years... now i just enjoy what i've discovered.

it's great that you are a music lover like me! i hope you continue this hobby as it can definitely reduce stress.. 😎

@AsherTree

I don't watch a lot of TV, current affairs and news mainly most of the programming doesn't hold my attention for long πŸ˜•πŸ˜• used to annoy my parents as a youngster juggling fruit from the fruit bowl or fiddling with my Rubic used.

First love was mainly disco, funk, R&B and soul but as ai got older I gradually got increasing into rock, from blues, blues rock, classic etc. My main passion is progressive music, 70's era prog rock and jazz fusion through to modern progressive metal, particularly with clean vocals and the melodic end of the spectrum.

@RunningMachine That's an excellent question. Honestly, I think listening means trying to understand the other person's perspective. We often try to give advice as our form of helping but by simply reminding ourselves that maybe an individual wants you to see the story through their shoes, that can end up helping them way more.

For me it's the music itself that comes first, i can listen to an album for the first time, become completely absorbed by the music regarding any vocals as mere instrumentation and only take any note of the lyrics on the 2nd or 3rd listen.

In short, music is everything to me! It's my companion through hard times, happy times, and all-in-between. I enjoy its indefinite companionship and support through it all
