Had something to ask regarding OCD...

Lately i have fallen into this habit of cross checking whether I have switched off the light or not, whether I have locked the door or not, whether I have closed the water tap or not etc . Although these thoughts dont happen everytime. But still they do affect me a little bit. So do u think it could be due to OCD ? I told my psych. abt this but he told me to "ignore" such thoughts. Also if u could share on how to deal with such thoughts....

Thanks. :)

I do this myself sometimes I double check everything cause if I turn the light off I'm like yup its off but then my brain forgets weather I did or not and I double check it sometimes I leave it until I need to go back into the room I only do this if I forgot maybe that's what's going on in your case you might have turned it off or locked it but you have that much on your mind you forgot weather you locked it or turned it off or not and you double check it

@Mrcheeku

Such thoughts i don't have a problem with it every one dose it to me it isn't a big deal isn't a problem its always good to check things twice or even 3 times to make sure its closed locked on or off or the kettle boiling for your next cup of coffee I just accept it its always better to be safe than sorry I always say I don't find checking things twice is a big issues I do it once and the second time is to make sure and to give my brain a piece of mind

Hello! What you're describing could be due to OCD, but if it stays mild like that I'd personally say it might be stress related. Has there been anything in your life that might have led to you having more stress than normal? Usually when it's OCD you'll do these things because you want to avoid something bad happening (something bad doesn't have anything to do with what you're doing). For example: You have to turn off the light or else your cat will die. OCD behaviour is usually linked to compulsive thoughts as well - thoughts that don't really make sense to people who don't suffer from OCD. It's good that you talked about it with your therapist, though! :) Keep watching these things and see if they die down in a less stressful time.

As for dealing with these things, you could try breathing exercises. Everytime you feel the need to check something you know you've already checked before try to breathe calmly and relieve your anxiety that way. It's not an easy thing to do, you will probably feel very antsy if you're ignoring the thoughts, but the more often you do it, the easier it will be.

I know this post is a little bit late, but I hope I could help you at least a little bit :)
