Obsessive thoughts - Can anyone relate?
Hi there, Ive been struggling with obsessive thinking for about 8 years now. I kinda did it to myself by putting so much anxiety towards my thoughts and now I think it might be impossible to overcome them. Its so hard for me to even leave the house.
Just wondering if theres any one out there that can relate?
I can. My mind is always thinking and buzzing about all this random crap. I can't even watch my favorite show without getting distracted. Or eat. And sleep....that is my nightly effort to stop the voice inside my head. I probably could've worded that better so I don't sound mentally insane, but it's the truth....
@Dreamer02
hi dreamer, i totally understand what your going through except mine is basicly one thought that dosnt move its attached to everything and like you said cannot even watch my favorite show. its like im scared to be better and its been so long im not even sure ill ever get through it and be ok... how are you feelling lately?
Better. I've gained a bit more self control with it at times. You?
Hey there. I can totally relate. I lost my boyfriend and my job because of OCD obsessions that left me wanting to die. I am currently on Prozac but want To eventually combat it with little to no meds. Since I have no job now, I have my first Psyche appt. on the 20th. All day today I cried in my room because I'm not sure I can make it through a normal life. It seems so impossible. People around me so happy and worry free and I'll be vomiting in the bathroom because I can't figure out a way to stop the repeated worries that cause an extreme adrenaline rush for days. I hope my extreme case helps you feel better.
There's no such thing as a normal life. No such a thing. And, ready to it, Glee. Mrs.Pillsbury has MAJOR OCD. But little by little, she'd have Will put dust on her nose, or turn around a fork at the dinner table. Eventually, she had THREE kids. Just make minor adjustments and maybe set a goal. Like today you'll uncenter that pillow =p. It'll be long and frustrating, but just accept and embrace I guess. You are extraordinairy for being able to express that. Go get that life you want =D
@Sunflower789
hi sunflower, i totally understand what your going through!! ive lost a lot of ppl in my life as well as my job.... but one thing i know is to try and stay calm when you have these thoughts... easier said than done or else i wouldnt be here but yeah try meditating on these thoughts and think of yourself just letting them go as if its a light wind... hope this helps...
I can 100% relate to obsessive thoughts about the desire to be perfect. Anyone else?
@findingbalance95
unfortunitely i dont have the same obsessive thought but i know that it is also common... have you tried counseling?
@peaceofmind111 I feel like I have a decent handle on my perfectionism whereas in the past I haven't, but thank you for the suggestion!
I have OCD and ADHD too,I can completely understand, What I do is first of all I distract myself and if that doesn't work I try meditation.
@peaceofmind111
I can relate to this a lot. ADD+Anxiety+Depression= No fun. Having depression is hard enough, but then the ADD makes your mind jump to every dreary thought possible. And once it's starts going its almost impossible to stop
I usually do get stuck on thoughts, but for me this also takes a physical form. I tend to pick at my skin a lot without noticing. My hands always need to be doing something. I used to pull out my hair when I was in elementary school to the point where I had very obvious bald spots. To this day sometimes I'll look down at my hands and notice that they are just leaking blood from picking. Most of the time I don't even realize I'm doing it until I start making a mess. It's sort of emberassing, especially when it's in the middle of class.
My psychologist thinks this might also be a slight OCD tick too.
What I've done to sort of cope with the rampent thoughts and compulsive picking is I try to keep my hands and eyes distracted as often as possible. I'm usually always doodling in class or trying to practice mindfulness but staring at every little knick in the desk. Does nothing for my school grades though, haha.
