Psychologist Visits
I finally have an appointment booked with a psychologist to be officially evaluated for OCD. Although I'm excited to finally be getting help, I'm a bit nervous because I have no clue what to expect. Reaching that problem, what should I expect when I go in for my first appointment? Any insight would be greatly appreciated to ease my anxiety. 🙃
Probably your first visit will be sort of a getting to know you/diagnostic session. So your psychologist will want to know what types of obsessions/compulsions you have, maybe a bit of your history, and they might have some diagnostic inventories that they will ask you questions from. They might also ask you about your goals for therapy. This is all just to help them get to know you a little bit and know how to plan your treatment better.
If any of the questions makes you embarassed, remember that a therapist who treats OCD has probably heard all kinds of ridiculous-sounding things before and knows it's the OCD and not you coming up with the ideas. They won't think you're weird or bad.
