We disagree about discipline

My husband and I keep having pretty major fights over disciplining our 5 year old.

A little short background, we've both been married and had children with our first spouses. Children are grown now. 5 years ago, we gained custody of my niece and nephew, now 10 and 5. This is the first time we've raised children together.

I feel like he's too harsh, he feels like I'm too soft. This quickly devolves into "who has better kids" arguments. My bio daughter has mental health issues, and struggles to "adult". He uses this against me when we have this fight. His kids are all doing good, but he is estranged from his own daughter. He is passive aggressive and will shut me out after we've had harsh words.

He refuses any kind of therapy or mediation, and I feel utterly lonely and hurt.

Would love any insight anyone may have.

@cander15 Hi! I hope you are doing well. I am sorry to hear about your fights with your husband. I want you to know that you are both different people and have raised your grown kids differently. How they act now that they are grown is not your problem and he shouldn't be holding that against you. I think you guys really need to set some rules that you both can agree to for discipling your kiddos. If you have guidelines that you both agree to, then it will make things easier! I'm wishing the best for you! 💛

I have abusive parents, and kids know everything, that's all I'm gonna say...
