What does that even mean?
Recently, it seems that I can’t seem to escape these phrases.
“You need to be stronger.”
”Be more bold. You’re too quiet and soft spoken.”
And the vast majority of other phrases that suggest the same or speak about my character/personality.
It’s very confusing to me because I grew up as a background character and that has obviously shaped me into who I am today. I just sit, observe, speak when I really need to. Is that really so horrible? The problem is, the older people don’t understand me, even when I attempt to be bold or strong or speak up, I always end up saying the wrong things or .. I don’t know what to say.
It’s so confusing. When I step out of my comfort zone, I get told that I’m not doing it right. When I am myself, alone and totally okay with that, it seems to bother people. They start to tell me that I’m not trying hard enough or that I’m not a teenager anymore so I should be stronger.
As you can tell my the essay above.. it’s been a pondering thought for a while. I apologize in advance 😭
It’s just .. WHAT more do you want from me??
I don’t have it all figured out.

People IMO find their voice at different times or ways..... i think when people encourage you to be bold or speak up it is not a challenge but more of a suggestion to get you to stand up for yourself. Life is tough and those who sit quietly and let things happen around them OFTEN get taken advantage of.
I was like that also a yes person whom sat quietly never really sharing my opinion or view or even telling people a piece of information they may be missing in making a plan etc.
After having to correct or redo things...... because i did not speak up and their plan failed ...i learned to start small and speak up... it can be difficult and it may come out as clumsy and not a clear or concise and you may like it but when you hit the mark and someone says i am glad you spoke up ...... it becomes so much easier.
I appreciate the time that you took to reply to me.
I know they only want the best for me, and I know that even though it may feel like a hard shove, it’s only because they know their story and they know what they’ve been through that they don’t want me to go down that same path.
So I’m going to work on myself. Instead of being frustrated, I’ll turn every opportunity into a lesson to be learned. It’ll be difficult but you’re right.
