Wow, penpals! It’s been a long time since I had one. I actually had an email penpal back in the day—we used to send emails instead of letters. Did you ever have a penpal? Also, tell me something fun about you! 😊

Snakes… oh yeah we talked about pet snakes, right? You had a boa? And a rat? That’s an interesting combo—aren’t snakes and cats naturally predator and prey? What are their names?
I’ve never had a pet of my own. When I lived with my grandparents, they had dogs and farm animals, but the only pet I “have” is a cat I sometimes babysit for my best friend. I travel a lot and I wouldn’t want to leave another living thing behind to fend for itself. Plus, I don’t think I’m ready for that kind of responsibility just yet.
I bet your food is way better than ours. Or at least less weird. Who invented deep-fried butter!??!
I had a ball python and and a smaller, wiggly snake hehe. She was grumpy. The ball was really sweet and gentle and adorable. Have you ever seen a snake yawn?? <3

I used to help care for horses! Call it weird, but I love mucking stables lol. It’s quiet and restful and therapeutic <3

"A grumpy little snake and a gentle ball python?" That's adorable! I've never seen a snake yawn, though. Ah, I get it —safety first on the internet, totally respect that. And honestly.... mucking stables actually sounds pretty peaceful. Horses, fresh air, and no other worries? I have horses too... it's funny, I never really thought of them as pets since they're at our family home and not with me but I did have riding lessons on one of them and I used to muck the stables during summer as well.
Deep fried Twinkies! They sound revolting but they’re AMAZING… Think a warm pastry covered in drizzled chocolate. Soooo good <3
But American has also decided that putting cheese on apple pie is a good idea. What???? Lol

@jesusredeemedme2425 Lately.... I've been working on short stories—it's my personal project right now. It's actually the first time I'm diving into this kind of writing. I've always written poems and I started posting them on 7cups. The responses I got were really encouraging.... with some even suggesting I could write a novel (though I think they might be overestimating my abilities😭 haha)So, I figured, why not try writing a scene or a short story and experiment with different genres to see what clicks with me? That's what I've been focusing on lately—short stories. Just thought I'd give you a little life update!

@jesusredeemedme2425 It's not bad in this context. The line gave me chills (in a good way). To explain a cold line... it is something someone says that doesnt need to shout but lands loudly. It’s quiet, calm and brutally true. It doesn’t beg for attention—it just drops like a blade. BAM!

Oh and… I don’t remember the last time I slept through the night, and I just told my old best friend (who just came back to work with me again) about my dad and stepdad dying, and my ED. And got his number again. So yeah… it’s been an interesting evening.

Opening up like that takes so much strength especially when it involves such deep and painful parts of your life. I hope it felt a little bit like a release even if it's emotionally exhausting. We know each other's trauma, he’s helped me get through some really hard nights… I know he can handle anything I throw at him, trauma wise. Idk, I just… maybe I feel embarrassed or something. @jesusredeemedme2425 That makes total sense .....opening up like that especially to someone from your past... can be exhausting. Even when theres trust, even when they’ve been there before. It’s not weakness... it’s just emotional weight being moved around. And honestly? There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Reaching out, reconnecting, asking for his number — that’s you honouring a bond that clearly mattered (and still does) that takes strength.
You don’t owe him perfection, just honesty — and it sounds like you’ve always given that. Be gentle with yourself. You did something brave, Kiara. *hugs *
Well, we’ve had fights, skirmishes, nothing exciting really but I don’t even know that either of us remember why. We stopped talking for years, but now we’re working together and talking again. Idk, my emotions are everywhere right now.
@jesusredeemedme2425 It’s tough when there’s all that history... I think sometimes life happens and people drift away for no reason...but it’s kind of wild how life brings people back together..Just take things as they come. Emotions are messy but it’s all part of figuring it out <3

@jesusredeemedme2425 Mm… if you can’t feel any pain when you pinch the bump, it could be something to keep an eye on (like if it changes colour or persists after a few weeks.. then take a doctor's appointment)... But if there’s some sensation and it’s not getting worse, it’s probably okay<3

Idk what it is, but I was sneezing for 2 weeks before I finally actually got sick.

@jesusredeemedme2425 I’m back to feeling like my normal self again. You were right to be worried those weeks before I disappeared — I was becoming a bit of a loose cannon. There was a lot of pent-up grief I hadn’t processed… mourning I kept delaying. I usually put on a happy mask and just go on joking or doing pranks.
Remember that memorial I kept procrastinating on? I finally went.
And honestly it really messed me up. But it forced me to look inward.
But I had a good cry afterward, and that helped more than I expected. I also prayed and grieved and it gave me hope. Does that make sense?
Thank you for worrying about me — it means more than you know.
I do that… I mask by being a goofball sometimes.

Back then, I’d throw parties, go on wild trips, laugh a lot— you know, just stay in motion.
It was my way of coping. But it’s okay now. I understand it better these days.
And hey, no worries—maybe I never told you. It might’ve been someone else. It was the memorial for my childhood friend— my first love, actually. We were like three kids—three peas in a pod.
Then one of us passed away. We never really processed it properly, you know?
So yeah… we grieved together. In our own way.

I can recognize when Im self sabotaging or avoiding emotions. And Im trying to unlearn the idea that being sad is wrong. That it’s okay to cry when I need to. For the longest time... I just… couldn’t.
As for him—yeah. He drowned.
That’s part of why I’m afraid of water.
When I was a kid, I had a near drowning experience in a pond. I was rescued, but the fear stayed.
Then I met my childhood friends— and one of them, he loved water. He was a swimmer.
Being around him helped. I never learned to swim but I could sit by a pool
with my feet in the water without panicking. That was a big deal for me. And for me water, ocean and everything swimming was him.
And then... he died. Accidently. Heroically.
He was trying to save people who were drowning—strangers. He saved one, went back in for another.
There was some kind of whirlpool. And they both didn’t make it.
That’s the story.
It's been a long time....years... But it still hurts. So yeah, it was his memorial and all the repressed emotions resurfaced. That is what happened.
There is nothing we can do about it. It was God's will and I wont pretend to understand it because I still think it was not fair. Maybe that is how grief is.

Awww, honey… I’m so sorry. I totally understand why water would be scary and triggering for you… You almost drowned, tried to get over your fear with a friend… And then water took him away from you. That’s the hardest… My heart cries with you :’(

I’ve been screaming into the void in silence. Except on here really. One of my new friends kept me sane while I was at the hospital, via our penpal chat.
No, she got discharged a few hours after we got there.
@jesusredeemedme2425 I see. It must be incredibly frightening to be in the hospital with a loved one—especially a mother. Just know this: you’re doing really well. It takes a lot of strength to stay grounded and be a pillar for your mom to lean on. I’m proud of you for that.
God is with you, Kiara. He sees your struggle, and He will help you through this. In the meantime, don’t forget—you can lean on us too. Your new pen pal friends, myself, and the 7 Cups community—we’re all here for you. You’re not alone. I’m really glad to hear that she was discharged. That usually means the doctors didn’t find anything too serious that required a longer stay. Still, be gentle with her and with yourself too. Drink water, try to get some rest, pray—whatever small things help you feel a little more steady.
And if you feel up to it... keep us posted. Only if it doesn’t drain you, of course.
