Desperate need for some guidance or help

I feel that I have Bpd but don’t want to self diagnose. I do not have access to a psychologist as I’m still young and with my parents. My mom doesn’t believe me when I say something is wrong she thinks I’m the way that I am from hormones so I choose to not speak about this. I constantly struggle with these symptoms and it’s really frustrating when you don’t know what’s wrong with you. I feel that I have it because for one I deeply relate to the Cause of it. I have childhood trauma but I don’t want to talk about it a lot. I have also done a ton of research and reading on it for a couple of years. I have ruled out anything else it could be. I have more than the 5 symptoms needed to be diagnosed.

-Constantly Craving Reassurance and Validation

-Impulsivity

-Over-sharing

-Paranoia About Relationships

-Intense relationships

-Fearing Abandonment

-Being Unable to Take Rejection or Criticism

-Being “Clingy”

-Pushing People Away

-Being Unable to Control Emotional “Outbursts”

-Affective instability

-Overthinking

-Picking Fights With Loved Ones

-Explosive Anger

-Feeling Like You’re “Too Much”

-Being Consumed By Sex or Experiencing Sexual Repulsion

-Having “Inappropriate” Reactions

-Feeling “Irrational”

-Unstable self-image or sense of self

-Not knowing who you are

I would like to know if either one it’s valid to self diagnose with the information that I have or two if anyone knows of anyway I can get a online free or cheap legit diagnosis

I need help

@brightCurrent420 Hi. I’ve heard that people in medical school experience a common thing, where they start to think they might have one of the many diseases they are studying. Once upon a time I tried to read the DSM manual. I found myself in over half of the diagnostic categories. I’ve been to a few therapists in my life, and never got labeled with what I thought I had. One therapist who I really tried to get a label only said I had “tendencies”. In my opinion, a diagnostic category is useful for the doctor or mental health professional to craft a treatment, but it really isn’t helpful for the patient personally to have a label. You might not be able to get such a label without seeing a mental health professional, and even if you could, how would the label by itself help? There may be a way to get access to free mental health, and if your symptoms are putting you in a lot of emotional distress, or at risk, then seeking help from a mental health professional might be a good idea. In the meantime resources like 7 Cups may be useful to perhaps learn some skills to help you deal with the symptoms. For instance, if you find yourself quick to anger, you might look for anger management strategies on 7 Cups or perhaps find resources such as books etc.

This might not have been the most satisfying answer, but I hope it helps some.

— Wishing you all the best

I sounded like I just want to be labeled with it but it’s not really what I meant. I have a hard time explaining things and making sense haha. I don’t really agree with self diagnosing. But I’m really trying to figure out what’s going on. I honestly am trying to find a cheap or free psychiatrist And I’m pretty sure I said diagnosis. I wasn’t In a good mindset when I was writing this so I might have not made a ton of sense so I’m sorry for that. I want to speak to a professional because I need to know if I have it for sure or not because I could have something else and be trying to manage these symptoms. I could have something else and actually need treatment. I don’t know. I’m just kinda stuck and I have been experiencing symptoms for a long long time.

@brightCurrent420 I notice you are here on an adult account, but you say you are "still young and with my parents." If you signed up with the wrong birthday by mistake, you can submit a request to have it fixed.

Self diagnosis of BPD is never valid, not even if you use information from the official diagnostic manual, DSM-5-TR. The manual's guidance for BPD goes on for pages, and is not just 5 symptoms. For a legit diagnosis you would need to be assessed by an appropriate mental health professional who understands all the complications—usually a psychiatrist, sometimes a clinical psychologist, but not just any random therapist etc.

A good therapist, however, would be able to help you recover from the childhood trauma you suffered, and once all that is out of the way it would be easier for a professional to work out whether you might have some kind of personality disorder or not.

I hope you'll be able to convince your mom that you need help with the long list of difficulties that you're struggling with, and that you'll be able to get support here at 7 Cups from listeners and other members.

Charlie

I am horrible horrible at explaining things or even just talking. I don’t just want the diagnosis just because. I want to know if it’s what I actually have. When I said I need help at the last thing and I think I said cheap or free diagnosis I more meant a psychiatrist. Like I don’t like feeling this way all of the time and yeah there are plenty of sources that may be able to help with those symptoms. But I need to figure out if I have it rather than just thinking oh yeah these are my symptoms and I’m positive I have it. Because I could easily have something else and be trying to manage these symptoms when I really need some sort of treatment for something else that I could have.

@brightCurrent420 You might have a community clinic or even a school psychologist perhaps. Perhaps google for something like social services in your area. Other than that, I doubt you’ll find “cheep or free” psychiatrist or clinical psychologist. If your parents have health insurance for you, then that might be an option. Best of luck navigating this.
