I think I might have BPD but would not self diagnose. I think I meet the criteria for BPD and have a lot of the symptoms. I am diagnosed with anxiety, but I have trouble with interpersonal relationships sometimes and controlling anger and other things. I should seek out therapy, but I

Hey there! I see that you feel you have symptoms that match BPD. When did you begin noticing these symptoms? I'm sorry you feel that your mom might react badly if you tell her you may need to see a therapist about this. Has she reacted badly in the past about something similar?

@Jenna I dont know if I could tell you when the symptoms or whatever they are started. Probably at least a year ago. I have lashed out at my boyfriend especially. I dont want to, but its usually on a whim. Ive been having an especially tough time worrying about him leaving for college. He decided to join the navy (to pay for college), and I panicked and told him I wanted to leave if he had to go to basic training this summer (for two months). I have tried to control him, and I feel manipulative. I havent always been conscious of this. I feel shameful.

My mom has reacted badly to my anxiety and therapy ever since I was young. I dont want to reach out to her because I have asked before, went to therapy and came back ‘better but she was irritated I asked.

Hi Nicki, welcome to 7cups!

I hear you re. looking for help. I actually speak with a therapist through here and it's great. I prefer it to walk in visits because we can speak daily, and usually when I see therapists in person I feel good and it's hard to talk about what's bothering me when my moods fluctuate...

Anyway... It also helps to speak with listeners sometimes. They cant give medical advice or diagnose you or anything but sometimes a fresh perspective and getting it out of your system really helps... Especially since most listeners tend to have personal experience with similar challenges

Hi Nicki. I'm glad you've joined our community. I'm sorry you're feeling lost. I certainly understand the fear of your mom's reaction to asking her about starting therapy, but your mental health is so important. It's not something that we should neglect. She might react badly, but isn't the risk worth the chance that she might be on board? My therapist told me "fortune favours the brave, so be brave", and ever since then, I've used this as my mantra whenever I'm scared of doing or saying something. Another one I like is "feel the fear and do it anyway". All of this is easier said than done of course, but you can do it. :)
