How do you forgive yourself for something unforgivable?

Has anyone ever made a HUGE mistake you regret more than anything? How did you move past it and find peace? How did you stop punishing yourself?

I have BPD and did something unforgivable. I ruined the relationship with the only person who has loved me. I did not cheat, but I did something terrible. It’s been a year and two months since the breakup .. I am never going to get over it and am going to be miserable and punish for the rest of my life, it feels like.

Hello there, thanks for joining to share about your difficult moment. It's surely difficult for you but I appreciate that you want to talk about it. I would say it's the first step to find a way to forgive yourself vs bottling things up.

Unfortunately we all make mistakes we wouldn't have done, some are more painful than others and surely your situation is emotionally impacting.

I sometime wonder if self acceptance plays a key role in all the negative we experience, because if we accept that we can also make mistakes, things could surely be seen from a different perspective and we learn to slowly let them go.

Hope you will find soon more inner peace 💙

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear your going through this. I've been through simular things... I've done some absolutely awful things that I regret and know I will take to the grave with me and yes, its hard to move past and forgive yourself and that's okay. I felt the best way to deal with my regrets was to just face them head on, instead of trying to push them to the side, start feeling your emotions and LET yourself feel the regret, pain is temporary and it doesn't last forever, but being in denial can. You need to accept it and let yourself feel. Deep breaths

I have, I understand you! I did cheat and I feel absolutely terrible about it. I have a really hard time finding it in myself to forgive myself. I struggle with it all the time. It’s quite torturous. I’m here if you’d like to talk..
