How to explain to the boyfriend what bpd really is?

I have been diagnosed 5years ago but i had all the symptoms long time ago.

I tried understanding what is happening and why is it happening to me. I read all the book on the subject just to better understand my mind.

Years passed by and I really made myself change. I managed to change my core problems - not eating at all, doing drugs, alcohol, sex...

I started going out year ago with the guy who is my boyfriend now. I immidiately had problems with him but i could not tell that the problem is BPD.

He is a great guy, he respects me, loves me but he had a normal life and it is really hard to explain what is happening in my head.

For example, couple days ago i could not sleep, i started feeling depressed out of the bloom, the suicidal thinking came back. I wanted to die, i was crying...

My problem, question is - how to explain properly what is happening to my mind, why is it happening?

Because i try to explain and afterwards i feel even worse. I feel guilty because i am who i am.

My boyfriend was there besides me while i had my episode, he waited until all was done to say that he doesnt know how to help me.

I dont want to feel empty and i really want him to understand me.

@lustforlife2103 Hi Life! I hope you are doing well! I think when it comes to educating those you love about mental health that you struggle with, I really like to share reading materials for them to understand. It can help give them some background to things when you try to explain it to them! If you can find an article or something that you relate to and give it to them to read, that could really be helpful! Do some research and share it with him and it could be helpful. I am wishing you the best! 💗

Yes to the comment above! There are some really good articles out there that are perfect for sharing with your partner.

something to add though,

you could also give them the space and time to share their needs from you. You guys are a team and I think it could really make for a very intimate time together to grow. It will also make him feel more included as well. One topic everyone kind of knows about is love languages, and you can alter that for yourself with BPD when you share. That way when you both share what your needs are, you might not feel as guilty when you try to talk about your BPD. Also you can let him know what you need from him in times of crisis, because that’s very important when you are in a relationship with someone.

good luck to the both of you!
