Identity Crisis

So ever since I was young I've used daydreaming as a way out of my pain. Although that young(like maybe 8 or 9? I had already been molested by friends of my parents and a coworker of my parents. I had no closure over it because my parents either didn't know, or didn't want to go to court. Due to that and a somewhat unstable household growing up - I always have mirrored people I am friends with or celebrities or whatever to either get people to like me or because the person had qualities I liked and wish I could attain. Though now when I feel like I should have a stable identity - I still very much have no idea who I am. How does one grow out of this chameleon like state? I know then it was a coping mechanism but now it's just mind boggling.

I know how you feel. There was a time that it protected us, but now, how do we turn it off?!! I had so many people that I love, die. I am so lonely and want to make friends, but it took 10-15 years to finally feel close to the friends I lost. I feel like I’ve been hiding for 3 years, and it is too hard to be around anyone. I have the same terminal illness that one of my brothers died from. So I start to feel overwhelmed because I will be going through that alone.

@kindTurtle3738 I'm soso sorry you're going through that! I have lost my parents early to terminal illness so I know where you're coming from!! Please take care and I hope that there are people that come into your life to be there for you <3 hugs!!! I appreciate you putting this up and being supportive as well !! It's good to know there's others going through the same. Best wishes to you @kindTurtle3738 !!!

Heyy, I suffer from that too... it’s called maladaptive dreaming disorder...usually it has a trigger that makes you start daydreaming...you should see which trigger you have in order to avoid it to stop yourself, it helps! Try!
