Medications? "Episodes"?

So I've been diagnosed with BPD during a hospital stay. I was 16 at the time and after returning home, got rid of all medications due to the fact that I was sure nothing was wrong with me.

I'm now 18 living on my own and am finding that maybe medication would help regulate and balance some things in my life. I've been doing research and heard about mood stabilizers (have tried one when misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder) and even antipsychotics? Does that sound correct? Does anyone just take antidepressants for BPD?

And while I'm here I thought I'd ask if anyone has "episodes"? I call them episodes because they last anywhere from a minute to maybe almost half an hour. I have feelings ranging from pure anger and hate to hysterical sobbing and anxiousness to even extreme worthlessness. Feel like it just depends on the day and what's going on but it's a different combination of all those.

I feel a little crazy trying to explain the "episodes" thing haha so maybe even just telling me what it's like living with BPD for you would help give me a better and more relatable understanding

Thanks for your time guys, just looking for some answers.

Thank you for sharing!

BPD is a very difficult thing to live with. However, it is behavioral which means it will respond less so to medications and more so to therapy. Is that something you have access to? The mood swings you're describing here are also very common. There is a lot of overlap between Bipolar Disorder and BPD. The biggest difference is that in Bipolar Disorder mania and depression go up and down, where as in BPD everything goes up and down. Love, hate, fear, depression, and the worthlessness you describe here.

My heart goes out to you. Do you have support?

@blitheSun94 Thanks so much for the information. That's very good to know. I recently have been putting off therapy because of work but now see the importance of getting back on track.

I wasn't sure if I was just a bit too over dramatic or what haha.

Also thank you for the articles you have posted! Have been very interesting to read. I read the one about BPD being passed through mothers and am kind of thinking she might be as well. I'll never tell her though because she is "perfect" and won't see the possibility but still interesting to know!

@laurenav

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my work. I hope you find something that touches close to home.

You are most welcome! I completely understand the struggles of the mother-daughter relationship. But that is a whole other story for another time. I will check back periodically, and do some sharing to help expose your thread to more people so you receive a more meaningful response.

Gnight :D

@laurenav I have these episodes, too

I'm afraid I can't give a lot of advice on what to do during them, I'm still learning to cope myself...

But I can provide comfort that you're not the only one who experiences these episodes

Here is a link to another post I've written on GROUNDING TECHNIQUES.

These can be used to return us to reality when we have been stripped of our senses.

I find these kinds of things most useful during mood swings, anxiety, and flash backs/anger.

I hope this reaches some of you. <3
