Memories separate from feelings

When someone asks me about the loss and trauma I have experienced, which seem endless, I talk about them like I’m reading off a grocery list. I have no feelings about them as I state each one. My feelings seem to be in another place. Most people think I have resolved each one because I talk so calmly about something I’m still traumatized from. I wonder if I will ever be able to connect the memory to how it makes me feel. Is that what splitting is in bpd?

I'm so sorry about the trauma you live with. Even though you don't feel intense pain while recollecting it, you can still be affected by it. I'm not sure if it's part of splitting, but it's my guess that you view your traumatic events as normal, and therefore it doesn't phase you to speak about

@kindTurtle3738 This can often be a sign of detachment. There can be a number of reasons for this. You mentioned BPD and trauma, detaching from the emotions is a way of protecting yourself. A therapist or counselor would probably be the best way to understand why its happening and would help you make connections between them.

That does make sense. I know the feelings are still there because if I think of any one of the losses or trauma for long, the feelings start coming. I have to think of something else. It’s like skipping from thought to thought. It gets tiring and also makes me seem to be forgetful. It’s just hard to remember things when my mind is so busy.
