Scared to go to a therapist

i think I have bpd. After years of unstable relationships, self harm, unstable emotions, impulsive behavior, I read “I hate you, don’t leave me.” I think my mom has bpd too. She emotionally manipulated and abused me when I was a child. I am afraid to go the a therapist because I don’t want to be committed to an institution. I want to get help but am afraid.

@SkyWriter97 Hey Sky, it's totally understandable to be afraid! It sounds like you have been having a very difficult time because of various issues in your relationships, emotions, behaviour, and so on. Struggling for so long can be exhausting and make us feel hopeless. Going to a therapist can help ease the burden. I believe in that possibility of getting better and I hope you will too. Take care!! 😊

@SkyWriter97

Hi there, Sky. I completely understand the fear of not wanting to be committed to an institution, and I'm sure many other people also do. However, there are ways to get help without going to an institution. Many psychologists have private practices and you can also seek help online from psychologists and therapists. All of these meetings would be on your own time, and you can discuss and schedule with your therapist as you want. Commitment can be scary, but you deserve help, and your commitment is on your terms. I hope you can get the help you need. Good luck with everything Sky! I look forward to hearing from you 💜
