i only like guys because of my low self esteem?

when i was younger i always thought i was gay (starting around age 10) but when i became more social when i got older, i realized attention from guys made me feel good about myself, and now i have a lot of romantic interest in them. i still prefer girls physically though, so it's been really hard figuring myself out over the years. i don't like to call myself bi, but nothing else seems to fit.

Well, for starters, never like anyone for low self esteem. Its not fair to you or them. Everyone craves attention and that's perfectly normal. you should learn to be content with being alone though; it will take some hard work but its great. Also, you got to tell yourself how wondeful you are everyday (even if you dont believe. Fake it to you make it because one day you will) It's fine if you are attracted to guys (some will say it isnt but really they just dont understand and are scared of what they cant comprehend) doesnt mean you have to date them or be physically attracted to them. Maybe you just like they're attention. Don't try to label yourself. Labels are meant for objects not for people.

@MetalKid,

What you illustrated here is precisely the point that sexuality is in fact fluid and can change or evolve over time. Thank you so much for pointing this out.

For some reason people are dying to slap themselves with a label. In most cases, it does not properly fit or is inaccurate altogether. Life is a journey, and it is perfectly okay that your interest and sex drive fluctuate.

I will also counter with stating that I am not attention seeking. I am quite the opposite.

I can definitely relate to this. I thought I was gay as a teenager because I was allowing myself to become sexually involved with another guy.I was only doing stuff with this guybecause it felt nice to have someone express this kind of interestin meand I was afraid of losing him as a friend if I didnt go along with it. Ive done stuff with other guys since then and it was the same sort of situation. It feels nice to get the attention and I know they will stopif I tell them im not gay.

I guess I cant be completely straight since im able to do these things with a guy, but I definitely prefer to be with women and dont think I would be sexually involved with other men at all if I had any self worth.

I know how you feel. I had a hard time making friends, still do, and the attention from guy's was all i had. So i did everything i could to get and keep it. but they would just use me and leave me. i was/am so scared of being alone, of people just continuing to leave. in 11th grade, i gave up on guys after all the hard stuff that was going on, and i started dating a girl. i thought it was what i wanted. it was a very toxic relationship. and we eventually broke up. after that, i started having sex with guys left and right. it made me feel loved and wanted and needed. it was getting crazy and out of control. im super lucky nothing major happened like STDs and stuff.

it's not easy to just be ok with being alone. it's the scariest thing for me.

but it is the best thing, so we dont continue to hurt ourselves or put ourselves in danger.

hang in there! it'll be ok!

I fought the same battle, just the other way around. I'm a girl as well and I always questioned if I only thought I liked girls because I got attention from them a lot more than from guys my age and maybe mentally this was just my way of avoiding rejection before it could even happen. in my earlier twenties i dated a girl for right about a year and honestly loved her and thought we would be together forever. for a while i tried to figure out "what i was" then one day decided that i am attracted to who i am, when i am, and it doesn't need to be more complicated than that. Not very helpful, sorry, but i just wanted you to know you're not at all alone with this specific struggle xx

I wouldn't invalidate how you felt about those guys just because self-validation was an important part. You ever hear the Who song Real Good Lookin' Boy? It's not supposed to be a song about something negative.
