Appearing to self-sabotage

I came across an interesting article, by a very experienced personality disorder specialist, about how people who suffer from personality disorders can appear to self-sabotage—that is, to do things that appear (to others) to be against their own best interests: Why those with a "Personality Disorder" diagnosis always sabotage (or do they?)

The article explains that this appearance is false, and concludes:

Let’s always strive to empathically understand why people do what they do…

It reminded me of the old days at 7 Cups when Our Values included this (which has now been deleted):

We recognize that people make sense in the larger context or story of their lives. Sometimes it can seem like people are making choices that do not make sense, but this is likely because we do not have all of the details. We understand that people are complicated and that life is not simple or easy.

Thanks Charlie for such an interesting read! It boogles my mind - A lot haha 😂 I've kept rereading it over 🤭❤️.

I can empathize with this, not only to the extend of personality disorders but to the people around, families & friends, also whether I've fall prey into the negative self-sabotage ways. Of course, imagine the preplexcites of those who tried to help! They must've felt disappointment to the least.

And thank you for the realization "Let's strive empathically to understand why people do what they do". It's a nice reminder that we always want the best for people, though we may object their ways. At times (anecdotal) I think that's why it's so hard to forgive / understand because it is at those moments we do not hold the pieces they grasp. Keep it up Charlie! 👍
