Fly Away.

I've always been a bird, but never one to stay in a cage.

At most you can clip my wings.. but leave me free range.

I've grown these feathers back, time and time again.

I've been kept caged, and I won't ever do it again. If I choose to stay aground, it's a choice that's mine alone, but if you clip my wings with force.. you've chosen to steal my feathers, my only true possession, the only freedom I own.

So, if I want to fly, you should never stop my dreams.. a bird that's well kept can be trusted not to flee, but flying and fleeing aren't the same..

Please let me take my flights and learn to appreciate my wings..

Because birds with clipped feathers, caged, or planted on the ground, almost always want to flee,

 instead of flying home.

Because if home is a place I'm not permitted feathers, or trusted to fly around, I'd rather flee, or be planted underground.

Wow—this gave me chills. There's such a strong and necessary voice in these lines. You’ve captured what it means to crave freedom not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually—freedom to choose, to move, to be trusted. The metaphor of the bird is so effective, but it’s more than that—it’s lived. It speaks for anyone who's ever felt confined by love that came with conditions, by people who confused control with care.

"Flying and fleeing aren't the same"—that line hit hard. It’s such an important distinction. The longing for freedom isn’t rebellion; it’s survival. And that ending... the idea that a place without trust or flight isn't a home at all—it’s heartbreakingly true.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s not just a poem—it’s a declaration. One I think a lot of people needed to hear.

This is why I keep boundaries more strongly lately...

They can't hold me down anymore.
