His patchwork doll

He’s healing something he didn’t break,

Threading the needle with extra care.

Patching up the broken pieces slowly,

stitch by stitch here and there.

His fingers move across my battered soul,

Straightening the wrinkles and patching up the flaws.

It’s not perfect, I know.

But I have learned happiness isn’t in perfection,

And I want to be happy and not perfect anymore.

He patches me with a star here, and a heart there,

Carefully replacing the scars, cuts and holes,

Finishing his patchwork with a smiley on my heart,

Making sure I keep smiling forever,

And I feel happy being his patchwork doll.

@imaginativeSpring186 This is so tender and beautifully written. There’s something so comforting about the idea of someone mending what they never broke....stitching love and care into every scar. Its like turning pain into something soft, something that holds warmth instead of just emptiness.

Also... that last line—I feel happy being his patchwork doll—hit hard...but you’re not just his patchwork doll—you’re someone he loves. And it’s that love, pure and steady that heals. Not because he’s trying to fix you, but because love like that can’t help but mend. I loved this!!

Thank you so much. I am glad you like it. I wanted to portray some hope. Sometimes things are hard to bear on our own and the idea that someone is going to mend the broken parts with love and care.. it sounded nice. Something that I crave.

the last line.. it just means that I’m happy being the not perfect person, but be the imperfect yet happy one with him…and be his patchwork doll, the one he mends with love in spite of all the scars and brokenness.

@imaginativeSpring186

Such a sweet and innocent poem. The scene was painted so perfectly that I can envision it with crystal clarity. It feels so soft and gentle. The calculated soothing of him and the accepting, trusting passivity of the narrator is so wonderful. There is so much love and affection captured in those three stanza that I am left dumfounded. All thoughts on structure, imagery, symbolism, and other deconstructive analysis washed away by a blanket of vicarious pleasure in viewing such a loving and caring scene.

It is a measure of how effective your poem is that I am still smiling about it after several readthroughs. It has left a warmth that does not dim swiftly. Well done, and thank you for bringing a little but more light into the world.

Thank you for the kind words. I’m happy to know that you like the poem. I am not a writer but sometimes I like to portray emotions. And a little hope is all we need to survive the bad nights. Thank you for reading it ^^
