Insomnia

The night is warm and breezeless
as darkness spreads its
sticky pomegranate molasses,
covering me, you, the world,
enveloping us in
sweet, sour and bitter,
there will be no dreams tonight,
no dreams
it covers your eyelids,
sleep creeps in,
I listen to your breathing,
slow and laboured
I fear you'll drown in the pomegranate darkness
I fear sleep will steal your sweet ruby-red
and leave me the astringent skin
yet you breathe, still,
still,
still.
