Josephine
Josephine (Growing Up In A Man’s World)
Mommy taught her how to cook
To do her laundry and stay clean
Told her always to be nice
And never to be mean
Tells her ev’rything ‘bout men
And the life that she will lead
Cuz a loud or clever girl
Is never to be seen
And while her brother’s playing soccer
She’s knitting dresses for her dolls
He’s running through the world
While she will always stay at home
Cause she knows that that’s the place
Where all women do belong
Yes, she’ll be the lovely bride
Carried by her man so strong
So she’s looking in the mirror
Practicing a jolly smile
Cause for a husband every woman
Would love to walk an extra mile
Pretty hair, pretty face
In the world there ain’t no space
For the girls with unique souls
Or a pretty clever mind
To marry and to bear a child
Will stay a woman’s only goal
And in eleven or twelve years
On her sunny wedding day
When she’ll be walking down the aisle
Looking happy, looking gay
She will fake a joyful smile
Cause inside of her it’s grey
Feeling empty, feeling weak
Cause her pretty voice don’t matter
So she never learned to speak
