I always say I'm an open book with such pride, not because I'm proud of my story, but I'm proud of myself for being willing to tell it.

I don't want pity, or recognition, I only ever wanted to be listened to, in hopes it would help me be understood.

But the thing about open books is there are more pages left ignored than there are pages that are remembered. Some things aren't as interesting as others, and some are too horrible to read again. The few dog eared pages, those are the ones that define you in other people's eyes.. the key points, the thrillers, the "tell it agains".

Unfortunately, only you know that the passed over paragraphs are the ones that hold the most truth, that ended up being the sentences seared into your soul.

Everyone else around you has folded your corners on the chapters they like the most, so they are the ones most read... but you have this ache, this hope, that one day someone will go through each page, and seek out the little secret scraps of paper you've used to mark the most misunderstood and least read parts of you.

@Gremlin0Magic

Sometimes there is a reader that does not just skim over the pages searching out the next exciting twist. Occasionally there is a bibliophile who recognises that the entire journey is what makes the book, not just the chapter ends. They can relish the loves, trials and tribulations, victories and defeats the same as any other, but they also realise that no paragraph is wasted. Each has its own part in helping understand the story they will come to be fascinated by. They marvel at subtext and are engrossed as much by what is whispered and veiled as what is shouted boldly.

Perhaps the author should not lose heart just yet and fear that all are missing the bits they wish to be understood. Maybe the reader just has not finished yet.
