Stranger Danger

How do you tell someone they've broken you beyond repair when they just don't care...

What once held love and inspiration, now houses pain and frustration.

What voids you used to fill have all but enptied themselves of all contents, nearly falling in on themselves and crumbling at the lack of foundation.

That foundation being the trust I gave you so freely.

That trust has become doubt, and in my reconciliation with myself, I've noticed that you are nothing but a stranger to me.

An old friend who has become no more than an acquaintance to me.

The dark comes back to fill the holes where the light once shone through, briefly.

I guess it's time to pick up the pieces once more and hope that this time I won't shatter in the hands I once put my entire heart in.

Hands that I won't shake ever again, because it's no longer nice to meet you.

I wish I had never met you before.

Oh MAN those last two lines hit hard. Beautiful, wonderful, chefs kiss. This is really raw and tangible. Very well done.

Thanks for sharing 😊

Thank you! And I'm glad I have a safe space to get it out, and know some may find comfort or familiarity in the feelings.

@Gremlin0Magic

The bitterness and pain in the tone of the poem is matched by the vulnerability and fragility of some of the imagery. There is a suggestion that the subject of the poem managed to hurt the narrator so deeply because of existing frailties, and that by allowing such trust to build, the eventual betrayal was all the more agonising. Not only the pain of loss, but the pain of allowing the return of other bad feelings.

It is very sad. But I hope writing it brought you some catharsis.
