The shelter (tw: animal abuse)
All dogs
are innocent.
If they hurt you
it's because of how they're
raised.
What do kill shelters care
in the very slightest
about any
of
this?
How fast
a dog can transform
from a
healthy,
energetic,
playful,
confident
dog, to
a mentally and
probably physically sick,
weak,
solitary,
dog
that's so scared
it would even
defecate in
fear
at a new visitor through the door?
Can I go outside?
I love the wind on my fur!
I love the warm sun!
I love the dewy grass blades
that
glimmer!
No, you're going in the cage.
Can I go outside...?
The wind on my fur feels nice..
The sun is warm...
The grass is pretty..
No, you're going in the cage.
I need to go outside.
I need just one breath of fresh air.
I haven't seen daylight in so long.
Please let me out on the grass.
No, you're going in the cage!
And if the dog
is brave enough
to
persist
it gets
slapped
and
punched.
As if any
sane person
would even think
of disciplining
their dog like that!
But they
are
not
sane.
They are evil.
We are they.
How would you feel
if you were locked up
and forced
to
be with another
person
you don't know
and get slapped
and hit
when it's not even fair
because you don't understand
the language
that thing
is speaking?
How would you feel
if you were forced to
birth
a child
with a random person
just because
that said so?
How would you feel
to get punished for simply doing
what you had to do:
Then getting your nose
rubbed in it
even though you
don't understand
what's
happening
because you did
your business
two minutes before
which felt like two hours
because time never goes fast?
How would you feel
to get a sickness
and never be treated?
How would you feel
if you were to have
such a
traumatic past with those things,
that you are driven insane
with fear
whenever you see one?
How would you feel
if you were an innocent dog
tortured because you simply exist?
Many people think
dogs are puppets
without feelings
that you train
to do
what you want it to.
People don't deserve dogs if
they just want it
for
the
training.
Yet, many voices including mine
make no difference
to the millions of kill shelters
and illegal dog fights
and animal abuse
that happens
every
single
day.
We are
those things to traumatized dogs;
what else would they call us
if they could speak..?
Monsters.
Beasts.
Giants.
Devils.
Hunters.
Predators.
My voice goes unheard
except to only the intelligent people
who know to spread the word
that animal abuse
is
not
right.
Animals are not
things.
They are sentient organisms
that can love,
can enjoy,
can play.
That can be
traumatized.
That can be scared
into thinking
humans
are
evil.
And what reason would we have
to even defend ourselves
if they understood us?
They wouldn't have one,
the animal abusers,
the monsters,
the beasts,
giants,
devils,
hunters,
predators.
Animals
have
feelings,
hearts,
brains.
They can be overwhelmed
with fear
with anger
with love
with joy
with anything.
And fear we give them most.
But why?
@Thunderclouds3
Dogs are truly more intelligent sentient beings than humans usually, with their extrasensory perception. My pup, for example, senses a panic attack prior to me collapsing, and she sits warmly on top of me, insisting on being petted, until I can calm.
My pup was lucky in that her mum walked up to a kill shelter, but the shelter had an arrangement with a rescue, who took in this hugely pregnant mum, delivered all seven pups safely and adopted all of them out.
Thank you for your heart wrenching poem.
Truly brought me to tears.
