Someone asked me who I am the other day

It’s unsettling trying to answer when you’re still figuring it out.

I didn’t give a perfect reply, but I know this:

I’m the kind of person who stops mid-step

when I see the stray cats near my house.

I scratch their little heads, choosing their fleeting trust over my mother’s caution about germs and sickness.

Because the best part of my day is the chance that a cat might be there.

So really - who am I,
if not a little bit of a crazy cat lady?
