i think i've seen this film before, so im leaving out the side door.
but look at her, how she'd mold her entire existence
and yet see herself never being a preference.
but then would wonder, who is she to grieve
oh, to question you, would be such a silly leap.
look how you're so good, a heart with no stones
yet all she yearned for was to be called your own
look how the unheeded letter weeps in the corner of a room,
left to be withered, longed enough to be doomed
your courtesy so kind, it must have been a lie,
your honesty's poisoned brew, callously left her to die.
with every graceful stutter she called out for you
a desperate plea for something ever untrue.
she doesn't believe in superstitions, they seem old to her
but wonders how a tiny eyelash puts a mild break to all the fear
when logic flies away and tired fists curl with a hue
watching the fallen lash ascend with a pipe dream called you.
but where did Jo and Laurie's story flee?
in the alleys of "what if", in the lanes of what could be?
yet in some parallel universe, a different reality might ensue
when she won't silently leave at the side door, when he would turn and view.
